Post class Facebook posts have been a forgot thing in recent months. I think because Saturday afternoons are taken over with family time.

In today’s beginner class we worked on front kick and round kick followed by an introduction to 1st kata. Kieran took the group through strikes and blocks to end the class. Student of the week was Jesse for amazing high round kicks. We also saw a grading for Maria.

In the 2nd class we covered covered a
blocks and strikes while moving forward and back. We all went through our first round kata for tournaments and lifted the energy levels with a few rounds of kumite, Matt Owen was Student of the week. Always pushing himself and always performing.

In the 3rd class of the morning (advanced). We covered the black belt kicking combinations, again in full kumite gear. Followed by 2 rings running mock 1 point sparring tournament kumite bouts.
Finishing with mock tournament kata, everyone had a turn as a judge and as a competitor. Some of you performing your 2nd round tournament kata.
Student of the week was Adriel, showing really good focus for his tournament Saifa.

Don’t forget tomorrow is tournament training at Hertford Dojo Simon B***e School. 12.30 - 2.30

Sensei Dan.

In mid-June, several of our Queensland, New South Wales and Victorian senior group volunteered to complete a Homes set-up with our charity partner, RizeUp Australia.

RizeUp provides all the practical items needed for victim-survivors of family and domestic violence to make a fresh start, including furniture and other household items that help transform empty houses into homes.

When each of our GKR teams arrived at their location, they were greeted by a RizeUp driver, an empty house and a truck filled with flatpacks and homewares. The teams set about unloading the truck, assembling the flatpacks, making beds, filling pantries and carefully decorating the space. This included fitting out children’s bedrooms and providing them with the materials needed to start at a new school.

After 4+ hours of work at each location, the transformation from house to home left a lasting memory for all involved. With the knowledge that a family would be entering their newly furnished home in the coming days, each team member took comfort in knowing that they had helped create a new beginning for someone in need.

We are incredibly grateful to RizeUp for the work they do and for the opportunity to be involved in their Homes program. We also appreciate the amazing support shown by all of our students and instructors who participate in the Stop Domestic & Family Violence Purple Belt Campaign. Your involvement means a lot, not only to RizeUp and the families they help, but also to GKR Karate as a whole.

If you would like to volunteer with RizeUp to help setting up Homes, information can be found here https://www.rizeup.com.au/volunteer

Time to congratulate this years award winners at the Stevenage Saturday class.
Student of the year Elena Sladkova-Gannon. A fantastic year for Elena, achieving black belt, competing in Junior opens at a tournament. Class attendance on Tuesday and Thursday senior classes has been amazing as well as assisting teaching in class with us on a Saturdayand on a Tuesday.👏

Student of the year Kimran Panesar. Really stepped up this year, attending the black belt assessment in the summer to train, competing in tournaments and now assisting in class. Always very accomplished karate and recently graded to 2nd Kyu.👏

Dedication Award Ashley Burvill. Never have I seen such determination and relentless effort. Ashley works so hard and pays attention so well, grading to red belt recently, his attendance level in class is second to none.

Also in the photo is Nella Sladkova-Gannon who was awarded a Recognition of Acheivement award in the Tuesday class.

Well done to everyone who won an award but also to all the Saturday students. A fantastic year as we look forward to next summers GKR World Cup.

Have a good Christmas From Sensei Dan & Sensei Derek.
