PLEASE TALK TO SOMEBODY IF YOU FEEL IN DESPAIR? THERE IS ALWAYS HOPE.

Dear daughter. They say It’s better to ask forgiveness than permission. So here goes.

During this last week my daughter was driving home in the evening on the M5 with a friend. My daughter is a highly qualified mental health nurse. She glanced up to a motorway bridge and saw someone sitting on top of the railings facing the motorway.

Instinctively she called the police. Her friend marked exactly on a digital map where the bridge was situated. Cleverly the friend also worked out a time saving route to return to the bridge using A38 They gingerly approached the young woman who was drinking cheap wine and listening to music, My daughter tried to build rapport by asking about the music and so on.

That bought some time but then my daughter noticed that the woman started stretching her body preparing to jump. My daughter leapt towards her, grabbed her in a bear hug and pulled her off the railings safely onto the road above the motorway. She hurt her own neck in the process. The friend helped to secure the woman’s head so she was not hurt.

At that precise moment the police who had stopped the traffic below arrived by foot on the bridge. They had witnessed the action and complimented my daughter and her friend for their very brave and compassionate action. They asked my daughter for as many details as she could give and then took the young woman to a place of safety.

I’m writing this because I’m very proud of my daughter who was keen to get back to her to see her toddler before bedtime and a friend who was keen to see her father who had been unwell. They didn’t just drive past.

I trust that the young woman is getting help that she needs and realises that there is hope for tomorrow.

Sadly su***de is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

PLEASE if you feel so desperate that you want to end you life, TALK to someone. There’s ALWAYS somebody willing to listen. PLEASE Talk to someone. We really do care.

I often talk to clients about ‘chunking down’ overwhelming situations or tasks into more manageable sizes. I also talk about being proactive, managing a task by foresight rather than letting it happen and reacting to it. Today I did a bit of both. I was doing admin and noticed there were 3 files of redundant paperwork. So rather than leave it taking up space for another day, I enjoyed lighting the chimnea and getting rid of it. Great feeling of satisfaction!!!

Filling in a tax return can be tedious but it was such a joy to go through my diary and remember all the lovely people who come to see me in the last year. I’ve been busier than I remembered. I guess that’s because I enjoy coaching so much. Thank you for all the positive feedback. I really should add it on here, anonymously of course. Here’s to next year!

I inform clients if I meet them unexpectedly that, I am not being rude in not acknowledging them, but in the interests of confidentiality, I will wait for them to speak first. I had a lovely surprise when I recently met two clients from a while ago who said how beneficial their sessions had been. Instead of feeling lost and overwhelmed in some situations, they now understand what is happening and use the strategies I
taught them to manage the situations.

It's just so lovely when, after six sessions a client says that their working with me has been 'transformative'. They leave with a bounce in their step and embrace the future that had previously been uncertain.

[It's true that not every client WANTS to change. Some just enjoy the comfort of a safe space where they can offload and that's OK too]

I had the loveliest day with baby granddaughter. Her parents had lots of work to do at home. We had fun in the garden and in the kitchen before bed time. 4 of us then enjoyed a roast dinner while she slept and slept and slept. Apparently she went for 13.5 hours. I must have tired her out! She’s coming back today!!!

So sad to hear of the death of Dr Michael Mosley. Tragic that he spent his life trying to keep us healthy. Condolences to his friends and family.

l like this saying. 'A goal is a dream with a deadline'. I have a deadline coming up. It is one that many dread; TAX RETURNS. If we dread a task, we will resist doing it because it is unpleasant and wI e would rather do something else. So to avoid that feeling of dread, I thought about how I felt last year when the return was completed and I got money back from the tax man. That changed my perspective. So it became a dream to complete the form on time. I know I won't get money back this time but I will avoid a fine because legally, I must compete and return the form. Researchers have collated the most common reasons why we put off doing things. Check them out and see if they might help you overcome procrastination in 2024. 1. Not wanting to do something
2. Not caring if it gets done or not
3. Not caring when something gets done
4. Not feeling in the mood to do it
5. Being in the habit of waiting until the last minute
6. Believing that you work better under pressure
7. Thinking that you can finish it at the last minute
8. Lacking the initiative to get started
9. Forgetting
10. Blaming sickness or poor health
11. Waiting for the right moment
12. Needing time to think about the task
13. Delaying one task in favour of working on something else.
