🦖 The dinosaurs might be closer than you think…

When you look at the animals at Living Things, you might not immediately think of dinosaurs. But some of our animals have incredible connections to the prehistoric world! 🌿

From Coco the conure and Juliette the barn owl, who are part of the only dinosaur lineage still alive today, to our tortoises, whose wider family tree stretches back to the age of the dinosaurs.

Our bearded dragons, leopard geckos and frilled-neck lizard may not be descended from dinosaurs, but they’re part of the fascinating reptile family tree. And our tenrecs, guinea pigs and sugar glider are part of mammal groups that lived alongside dinosaurs millions of years ago!

It’s amazing to think that the prehistoric world isn’t quite as far away as we might imagine. Some of its incredible evolutionary story is still all around us — including right here at Living Things! 🌎🦖

Who does it take to run Living Things? 🐾🌿

A whole team of passionate people! From animal care and welfare to nutrition, enrichment, maintenance, presenting, social media and everything in between, there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes.

But the best part? We all do a little bit of everything.

It’s not about one person doing one job — it’s about everyone working together, sharing the workload and supporting each other. That teamwork is what keeps Living Things running smoothly and, most importantly, helps us give our animals the very best care. 💚

Behind every animal, experience and event is a team that makes it happen. 🐾

Mission: investigate EVERYTHING. 🕵️‍♂️🦦

Ferrets are incredibly curious and playful, so they’re constantly exploring their surroundings and looking for their next adventure… or a little bit of mischief! 😂💨 They’ll squeeze into the tiniest spaces, burrow under blankets, and inspect every corner like it’s their full-time job.

Nothing is safe from their investigation—not bags, not boxes, and definitely not your peace and quiet. If something moves, rustles, or even might be interesting, a ferret is already on the case!

Spend a welfare shift with Louisa and get a little glimpse into everything that goes into keeping our animals happy, healthy and thriving. From feeding and cleaning to enrichment, maintenance and all the little jobs in between. 🌿

And this is only a snapshot! There’s so much more that happens behind the scenes that you don’t always get to see, but every job plays an important part in maintaining the high welfare standards we’re so proud of. 💚

🦒 Meet Ryan! 🐾

With nearly two decades of experience working with animals, Ryan has spent his career getting up close and personal with wildlife, from the smallest dung beetles to some of the world’s most incredible giants.

As a wildlife presenter and safari guide, Ryan loves sharing his passion for the natural world, making people laugh, inspiring curiosity and hopefully encouraging more people to protect the amazing wildlife we share our planet with. 🌍

And his favourite animal? That’s a tough one! Ryan loves them all, but after some unforgettable underwater encounters in the Arctic, orcas hold a particularly special place in his heart. 🖤🐋

Happy World Lizard Day! 🦎💚

We absolutely love our lizards here at Living Things! From the cheeky personalities of our bearded dragons and leopard geckos, to the impressive frilled neck lizard and our beautiful blue iguana, we have quite the lizard crew! 🦎

Lizards come in an incredible variety of shapes, sizes, colours and personalities, and can be found in habitats all around the world. Some spend their lives high up in trees, others live on the ground, while some are perfectly adapted to hot, dry environments. 🌎

They’re also some of the most misunderstood animals, which is why we love introducing people to them through our shows and helping people discover just how fascinating they really are. 💚

Whether they’re basking, climbing, exploring or simply watching everything going on around them, there’s always something to learn from these incredible reptiles!

Each has their own unique style, but every show is packed with fascinating facts, amazing animals and plenty of opportunities to get up close with nature.

People often ask if our animals are trained to do what they do on our shows… the answer is no. 💚

Everything you see is simply their natural behaviour.

From meerkats standing tall on guard to sugar gliders gliding, snakes exploring with their tongues, and barn owls flying, our animals are simply doing what comes naturally to them. We don’t teach tricks or ask them to perform—we allow them to make their own choices and behave exactly as they would instinctively.

Our presentations are all about education, respect, and inspiring a love for wildlife. By allowing our animals to be themselves, we can share fascinating facts about each species while showing just how amazing their natural behaviours really are.

Animal welfare will always come first, and that’s something we’re incredibly proud of. 🌿💚
