What a fantastic week for two of our Year 5 pupils, who have spent the last few days in Epsom as part of an exciting partnership opportunity with schools across the SLP Trust and the wider LEO Academy Trust family. 🌟

During their stay, they worked alongside children from other schools, experienced learning in a digital classroom, took part in team-building and sporting activities, and explored some of London’s most famous landmarks and cultural attractions. From museums and monuments to gardens, palaces and even a river cruise, the boys have enjoyed a rich programme of learning beyond the classroom while making new friendships along the way.

They also experienced travelling by train, navigating the capital and immersing themselves in the sights and sounds of one of the world’s great cities. Throughout the week, their behaviour, attitude and enthusiasm have been exceptional, and they have been wonderful ambassadors for our school.

Opportunities like this are a brilliant example of the advantages of being part of a strong and ambitious trust. Through the collaboration and support of our central teams and partner schools, our children are able to access experiences that broaden horizons, build confidence and create lasting memories.

We are looking forward to more pupils having the opportunity to visit London later this summer, but this is just one example of the enrichment opportunities available to our children. Whether here in school, across our local community or further afield, we are committed to providing experiences that inspire curiosity, develop character and help every child realise their potential.

🚧✨ Exciting things are happening! ✨🚧

It might not look like a nursery just yet, but every great transformation starts somewhere…

Our busy builders are hard at work creating a beautiful new space for our youngest learners, and we can’t wait to share the finished result with you! 🧱🔨❤️

For now, here’s a little behind-the-scenes look at the journey so far. Watch this space… the best is yet to come! 🌟

Today, our Year 5 class kickstarted their new History topic with an exciting visit and workshop delivered by Beamish Museum! ⛏️

During the morning, the children became history detectives 🕵️‍♂️, investigating the tragic death of a 12-year-old boy who had died working down the pit. Through speaking with a range of characters, including the pit manager, an ex-teacher and a neighbour, they gathered evidence and worked collaboratively to uncover the circumstances surrounding his death. By the end of the workshop, the children were able to identify the many factors that contributed to this tragic event and gained a deeper understanding of the dangers faced by those working in the mining industry.

In the afternoon, we immersed ourselves further into the world of mining by going down into the mine. This gave the children a fascinating insight into what life would have been like for miners, allowing them to experience the conditions they worked in and helping to bring our learning to life.

This visit has provided a fantastic introduction to our History topic this half term, where we will be exploring mining in our local area and discovering how Stanley has changed over the years.

We were incredibly proud of the children throughout the day. They showed great enthusiasm, asked thoughtful questions and behaved exceptionally well. In fact, two members of the public stopped us to compliment the children on their excellent behaviour and manners!

A huge well done to our fantastic Year 5 class – you were a credit to our school today. We can’t wait to continue our journey into local history over the coming weeks!

What a great start to the new half term. During this morning’s celebration assembly we celebrated one of our pupils achieving a silver medal in the English tumbling competition. We also had some excellent behaviour, pupil of the week and resilience award winners. Tees team won the most team points for last half term. I wonder which team might win next week? Keep working hard everyone.

As part of our PE curriculum, our Lower KS2 children have taken part in exciting golf sessions delivered by expert coaches.

The children have loved learning new skills, developing their coordination and teamwork.

If your child is interested in taking part in golf, we would like to share details of how they can begin their golf journey with South Moor Golf Club ⛳️

While we only advertise and promote events delivered by reputable organisations, please note that the experience being shared is not organised by East Stanley School. Parents/carers are therefore responsible for carrying out their own checks to ensure the service is suitable and appropriate for their child.

🌟 A Huge Well Done to Our Young Poets! 🌟

We are incredibly proud that every single child in school took part in the Rotary Club of Consett Poetry Competition – resulting in the highest number of entries of any school across the Derwentside district. This fantastic achievement reflects our commitment to literacy, creativity and encouraging children to embrace new opportunities with confidence.

A special congratulations goes to one of our Year 6 pupils, whose wonderfully clever poem, The Sunday Slumber, won the competition for his age group. He was delighted to receive his prize from Norman Sellar during break time earlier this week. 👏🏆

Most importantly, we would like to celebrate all of our pupils for their enthusiasm, imagination and willingness to put pen to paper. Every entry was a success in its own right, and we are so proud of the effort shown by everyone involved.
