What do you do if you have over 50 tea towels of photographs of South Stanley taken by the children of South Stanley Junior School and you want to make them into an exhibition for Stanley Street Food Market?

You turn to the talented Sue Archbold and she does her magic.

Durham County Council Into the Light Durham Culture County

Thanks to the Into the Light team for bringing Shona McCarthy to Durham today to share her experience of a successful City of Culture bid in Derry/LondonDerry in 2013.

We’re proud to be working alongside Karbon Homes to help bring creativity and community pride back to Stanley town centre.

Through the Thriving Stanley Action Plan, Karbon has been investing in projects that make a real difference to local people and places — and The Forge has been delighted to play a part in that journey.

Together, we’ve worked with residents, schools, community groups and artists to transform empty shop shutters on Front Street into vibrant public artwork celebrating Stanley’s identity, history and future.

This collaboration shows the power of creativity in shaping stronger communities. By giving local people a voice in the artwork and involving young people and community groups in the process, the project has helped spark conversations, increase pride in place and bring new energy to the high street.

A huge thank you to Karbon Homes, the artists, schools, community partners and everyone involved in helping make Stanley shine. We’re excited to continue building on this momentum together.
