Mossbourne Fobbing Academy celebrates continued record-breaking GCSE success

Year 11 students at Mossbourne Fobbing Academy, part of the Mossbourne Federation, today celebrate another excellent, record-breaking set of GCSE results, as the academy continues to build on the significant improvements achieved last year.

Not content with just matching the remarkable results of 2025, the class of 2026 have broken more school records. Importantly for their future choices and opportunities, one such record was the numbers achieving a strong pass (grade 5 or higher) in both English and Mathematics, which rose for the second year in a row to 46%.

While across the country there remains a persistent disadvantage gap where students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and/or those in receipt of free school meals (FSM) make far less progress than their peers, at Mossbourne Fobbing Academy, results for such students increased sharply and are now in line with their peers. This breaking of a disadvantage gap is a significant achievement that will support the most disadvantaged students to fulfil their potential.

Other records were broken in English where results were once again notably above national averages.

β€’Almost one third of students achieved the highest grades (7 or higher).
β€’More than two-thirds secured a strong pass (grade 5 or higher) – a figure expected to be nearly 20% higher than the national average.

There was further outstanding performance across the wider curriculum. History continued to excel and were joined by many of the arts subjects, including Drama and Dance, in achieving results that far surpass national benchmarks.

There were many exceptional individual performances to celebrate too. Particular congratulations go to:

β€’Bobby Dunsdon, who achieved Grade 7 or above in seven subjects, including four Grade 9s;
β€’Amy Gjoni, who achieved Grade 7 or above in eight subjects, including six at Grade 8 or higher;
β€’Mason Sargeant, who achieved Grade 7 or above in eight subjects, including three Grade 9s;
β€’Sophie Doyle, who secured Grade 7 or above in six subjects, including two Grade 9s.

Mr Sam Cooper, Principal of Mossbourne Fobbing Academy, said:
β€œWe are so proud of what our Year 11 students have achieved. They worked incredibly hard and thoroughly deserve the congratulations that will come their way and the doors to future opportunities that will now open before them."

"It is particularly pleasing that our most disadvantaged students, including those with Special Educational Needs or those in receipt of Free School Meals, have bucked the national trend and have achieved in line with their peers. This shows the difference that high expectations and ambition can make to the life chances of our most vulnerable children."

"Last year represented a significant step forward for the academy, with results improving dramatically across the curriculum. Maintaining such standards and pushing to break more records was our challenge this year - our students and staff have done exactly that."

What an incredible few days at the Thurrock District Athletics competition!

Across Monday and Tuesday, with the finals taking place on Wednesday, our students represented the school with outstanding determination, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship.

Every competitor gave their absolute best, rising to the challenge and performing to an exceptionally high standard in every event.

Their dedication and hard work led to some fantastic achievements, including 1st place in the Year 7 Girls High Jump, 2nd place in the Junior Girls 800m, 3rd place in the Inter Boys 800m, 2nd place in the Inter Boys Hurdles and the Inter Girls Hurdles, and 3rd place in the Inter Boys Long Jump.

We are immensely proud of every student who took part, not only for their impressive results but also for the resilience, teamwork, and positive attitude they displayed throughout the competition.

Congratulations to everyone involved on a truly memorable and successful athletics competition!

πŸŽ–οΈ What an incredible week at Summer Camp! πŸŽ–οΈ

The final few days have been packed with challenge, adventure and achievement for our cadets! πŸ’ͺ

🎯 Tuesday saw the cadets on the firing ranges, successfully completing live firing from prone, seated and kneeling positions. Every cadet passed, with two achieving the coveted Marksman standard – an outstanding achievement! πŸ‘

🌊 Wednesday took us to the Liverpool Watersports Centre, where cadets completed swim tests, enjoyed paddleboarding and tackled an exciting obstacle course. In the afternoon, they had the opportunity to explore the iconic Albert Dock and experience one of Liverpool's most famous landmarks.

πŸ† Thursday was all about teamwork and competition in the Altcar Challenge. Split into two teams, our cadets took on a range of exciting activities:
🧩 A series of STEM challenges, including an immersive escape room and code-breaking activities led by the National Cyber Security Centre.
🎯 Marksmanship and targeting events, including laser clay shooting, air rifle sniper shooting, paintball and the opportunity to handle a variety of military equipment from around the world.

πŸ₯ˆ Our STEM team finished 2nd out of 7 teams.
πŸ₯‰ Our Marksmanship team secured 3rd out of 8 teams.

An incredible performance by everyone involved! πŸ‘

πŸŽ‰ The week concluded with Altfest, a celebration recognising all the hard work, resilience and commitment shown throughout the camp.

We are extremely proud of every one of our cadets. Their outstanding behaviour, enthusiasm and engagement have been praised time and time again by the training team at Altcar, and they have been fantastic ambassadors for our academy. ⭐

🚌 Today, we're heading home after an unforgettable week. With a six-hour coach journey ahead, we're expecting a very quiet trip... although we're sure there will be plenty of memories to share! 😊

πŸ‘ Well done to all our cadetsβ€”you have represented the academy with pride and distinction. We can't wait to hear all about your adventures!
