Happy new year friends old and new!
2023 is in the books and it’s been a decent year for the club. We have welcomed new students, had a tameshigiri session and we’re secure in the dojo for the foreseeable future.
The count down to the first class of 2024 is on
Come and join us and see what this year has in store for toryumon iaijutsu
Toryumon iaijutsu
Toryumon iaijustu is a martial arts school based in the wigan area as part of the budoin uk organisa
Some things really grind my gears.
I have been around a little while now beginning my iai training in 2006 and currently 4th Dan…. So let’s put into perspective 17 years of training to get to this point. Many long hours in the dojo through all weathers and life’s ups and downs.
Always learning and still as much a student as when I tied my obi that first night. Imagine my surprise when I stumbled across a video saying “you can be a master of Japanese martial arts in 1 year”
Could have saved so much time if I’d done it that way.
For clarification grades in iai have a minimum requirement for 1st Dan and above as follows
1st kyu to 1st Dan 1 year
1st Dan to 2nd Dan 2 years
2nd Dan to 3rd Dan 3 years
And so on.
These are not negotiable based on how much money I spend and neither are the assured up reaching the time limit.
It’s very much a work in progress and will be fleshed out more in the coming weeks but the club website is finally online again.
Feel free to go and have a mooch (get it a few views to get it rolling) see if you can google it and give me an idea or 2 that I can add or improve.

Stepping back in time a few years to the last time we did tameshigiri.
This was a blast!
Need to do this more than once every few years 😂
Little bit of fun after class tonight. Testing out the new club sword.
Not perfect but that’s why we practice

Kamiza at the dojo looking good!
Big thanks to our newest student for donating the Very nice sword to the club.
Tameshigiri is back on the menu.
It’s easy to portray the image of being infallible as a martial artist. (I don’t make mistakes) but I believe we shouldn’t hide our proverbial scars and slip up’s.
Nearly 2 years passed before I could put my sword arm back to work and that time has taken a toll. I can feel it in my form and I can see it when I watch the video back. I’ll get back to normal eventually but only by holding up a mirror to my own technique and acknowledging my mistakes.
No matter how long you teach or how many you teach never let go of being a student of your art!
The video clip is of the very first form in our school
Junto sono ichi.
Well the last 2 weeks hampered our return to the dojo a little (Covid sucks but I’m all better now) and glad to be heading back though the dojo door.
Early Christmas present for me!!
I am happy to report the first couple of weeks of re-opening have been successful.
Got some rust to knock off after such a long time away due to the pandemic but I still have all of my fingers👍 and we are operational once again.
In the short time we have been home we have shifted back to our traditional hours of 19:30-21:00. Now all we need is a new student or 2 and we will be able to expand our time again.
Who Fancies helping us out?
P.s stay tuned as I prepare somethings and I may have a little new content to share on the page soon.

First class back at Manley st in the books and I was happy about returning there before tonight but it’s so much more than that. When I walked through those doors this evening it was like returning home.
I’ve trained in many places over the years almost all with more impressive facilities but none have ever been able to illicit the feeling of being right where I should be like the cold floored hall that is Manley st community centre.
Feels like a dojo once more
Konnichiwa!
Been far too long since we had to close the dojo doors at the start of the pandemic. seems like I’ve been bashing my head against the wall ever since trying to find a way to reopen the doors and now the time has finally arrived.
I am extremely happy to announce we have weathered the storm….. a little battered but still afloat and sailing back into a familiar port.
Tomorrow night we throw open the hatches of our longtime home Manley st community centre. It’s where our club was born so it’s fitting that we rise again from there too!
Friends, new and old feel free to join us. Come and see what muso jikiden eishin ryu iaijutsu is about. First class regardless of if you watch or Choose to get stuck in is as ever free.
1 person or 100 people come to our dojo all will be welcomed in my usual friendly fashion and i’m just glad to be back where I belong.
