Morning
Time for a rest.Sleep longer,recharge your batteries.Enjoy brunch at home with your hosts.

Afternoon
Meet at 13.00
After practising for Friday evening’s entertainment,we’ll go to The Meadows for games.
Finish at 17.00 and spend the evening with your host family.

Day 7. SATURDAY JULY 27th

LONDON
The outline programme for today is.

08.00 Depart from Stamford by train.
Change at Peterborough for London train.
Arrive London about 10.15.
Take tube train to Tower Hill. (11.00)
11.45. From Tower Bridge to Big Ben by boat along the River Thames.

EXPLORING THE WEST END

There’s no better way to get to know a city than by exploring it on foot.
We’ll walk from Big Ben to Oxford Street by way of
Trafalgar Square with its monuments and fountains before enjoying the buzz of London’s entertainment area centred around Piccadilly Circus and known as the West End.
From there we’ll make our way to Oxford Street via Regent Street with its many famous stores.
We should arrive in Oxford Street about 15.00 and you’ll have free time to go shopping until around 16.30 when we’ll take the tube to St Pancras and there the train back to Stamford arriving about 20.00.

Day 6 .FRIDAY JULY 26th

MARKET DAY
The Stamford Friday street market is still popular after hundreds of years and a day that Stamfordians still enjoy as much for its social opportunities as for the various goods on sale.
People enjoy meeting one another and having the chance to chat and catch up with their news.It’s just so refreshing compared to buying on line and shopping in a supermarket.

Session 1
ASSEMBLY
Another enjoyable mix of songs,games and surprises.

Session 2
LONDON
WHEN A MAN IS TIRED OF LONDON,HE IS TIRED OF LIFE!
In 1777,a famous author called Samuel Johnson who composed among other works the first dictionary of the English language said to his biographer,
“When a man is tired of London,he is tired of life.”
It’s a quotation that people still like to use if someone happens to to say to them that they don’t like London.An advertiser’s dream!

What we want to find out in this session is what you think about your capital city and how you would sing its praises to the rest of us.
Every capital city has its high spots and merits.Can you persuade us that yours are perhaps better than others.

Session 3
GETTING AROUND LONDON
Train,Tube,Boat and Legs.

In this session we want you to become familiar with the route that we intend taking tomorrow and the names of some of the streets and tube stations that will be on the route we intend taking,but we shall ask you to work in small groups to use the maps to tell us what you consider to be the best routes.

If you don’t want to go shopping in Oxford Street we can arrange for you to visit the wonderful Natural History Museum instead.

We want you to get the most out of your days in London and can do our best to be as flexible as possible for those who’ve been there before.

AFTERNOON
YOGA was a successful introduction to the programme last year,so as a way of relaxing and getting your mind in good order for the weekend classes will be offered this afternoon.Beginners are very welcome.
Other recreational activities can be offered for those who don’t want to take part in the yoga classes.

DAY 5. THURSDAY JULY 25th

WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE aka THE BARD

Today is very much a day centred around the Englishman whose name and fame is perhaps better known throughout the world than anyone else.

William Shakespeare,the bard of Avon.
Bard is a very old word meaning a poet who could also entertain with music and songs.Avon because Shakespeare was born in a town called Stratford on Avon.

In his plays and sonnets (poems),he wrote many lines that have become well known and immediately recognised as Shakespearian .
‘To be,or not to be,that is the question’,is perhaps one of the best known,but there are many more ,and in the first tutorial session after assembly we shall introduce you to some of these classic lines and practise them as if you were performing them on stage.
It’s a great feeling to be able to speak these lines in the manner that Shakespeare intended ,and what prompted him to create them.

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S
DREAM

This evening we are going to see a performance of ,’A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ at the local Tolethorpe outdoor theatre,set in the lovely surroundings of an old manor house.
This well known comedy is one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays,and in this session we will introduce you to the storyline and the main characters in the play.

AFTERNOON
At the SPORTS CENTRE for a varied programme of activities.

EVENING
At TOLETHORPE THEATRE to see ,A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM.
