Grasslands
Hola amigos! 🇪🇸

Yesterday, in Grasslands, we had our first Spanish lesson.

Our Spanish teacher, Eva, came after our rolling snack time, and we got started!

Eva first taught us how to say hello in Spanish which is “hola”.

Eva then got out her mystery box. One at a time each of the children got to pick an item out of the box.

One of the children picked out a spider. So first we sang ‘Incy Wincy Spider. We sand it in English and then in Spanish. The children tried to join in with the Spanish version and got more confident by the end of the song.

We also sang ‘Old Macdonald’, ‘Round the Garden’ and ‘Three Little Ducks’ in English and Spanish. The children really enjoyed this and were very engaged.

At the end of the lesson Eva taught us how to say goodbye which is, “adios”. For the goodbye song Eva used bubbles. The children really enjoyed popping them!!

We are really excited for next weeks lesson!

Thank you Eva!

One of my little students made a little mermaid named Gabriela. We were studying clothes in Spanish with paper dolls in the last lesson and today she showed me her very own paper doll and surprised me with a list of vocabulary naming clothes and accessories, all translated to Spanish and I could see how excited and happy she was to show me.

¡Estoy orgullosa de ti! - ¡I’m very proud of you!

Yesterday we had another fabulous Spanish Summer club! This group were younger than my first one and they also enjoyed the activities very much! As you can see, we were so busy I couldn’t take too many pictures of each activity!

I’ll tell you an interesting fact about Picasso:

Picassos full name has 23 words:

“Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Martyr Patricio C***o Ruíz y Picasso”

Have a go and try to read it!!

¡Gracias estudiantes y padres! - thank you students and parents 🩷

How to pronounce the Spanish vowels? That’s easy!
- A (ah) is pronounced similarly to the "a" in "father”
- E (eh) is generally pronounced like the "e" in "met”
- I (ee) is pronounced similarly to the "ee" in "feet" and the "e" in "me"
- O (oh)is pronounced like the "oa" in "boat"
- U (oo) is generally pronounced like the "oo" in "boot"
The word “murcielago” has the 5 vowels as I point to them on the video. Let’s see how you pronounce it!

When we have a word with two vowels together (diphthongs) it’s exactly the same pronunciation as shown above.

Let me know in the comments how many you pronounced correctly!

¡Hola a todos!

As you can see last Wednesday was a very fun and busy night! I was over the moon when Stamford Summer School contacted me to do the Spanish summer club for 17 wonderful students from Austria, Denmark, Germany and Spain. I love sharing things from my culture and I also love seeing others enjoying it.

Learning the “Sevillana” dance was so much fun! The students were able to remember most of the steps but also they performed the choreography so well!! 💃🏽

Knowing interesting facts about Pablo Picasso, famous Spanish painter, helped them to be in his shoes and create their own masterpiece 🎨

To end the session, the students followed a recipe to make a very tasty “Gazpacho”, typical dish in the south of Spain 🇪🇸

What a lovely experience. I’d love to thank all the students that put so much effort to do the activities and the marvellous staff and leaders for helping me during the session.

I hope to see you next year!

¡Gracias!
