We were delighted to welcome the High Sheriff of Greater Manchester, Mark Llewellin, to The Lock as he presented one of the founders of Works4U, Norman Mackie, with a High Sheriff’s Award in recognition of his great and valuable services to our community.

Norman has volunteered for over 50 years and has worked tirelessly to create opportunities for our students and support them to excel, making a lasting difference to those within our Works4U community.💙

Our events at The Lock continue to be a huge success, allowing us to raise vital funds for charity while giving our students valuable experience, building confidence and helping to combat loneliness within our community.🫖☕️

Community Partnership 🤝

We’re so proud to share the completion of a fantastic community project in partnership with The Power of Resilience CIC !

The new food pantry at Broadoak Community Centre has been constructed by Works4U, led by our fantastic Art Tutor Darren.

A huge thank you to Julie Mallinson for bringing this partnership to Works4U, and to Wendy Mackie MBE for providing the expertise, guidance and workforce to help bring the project to life.💙

It’s fantastic to see this project completed and creating a valuable resource for the local community, helping to support those who need it most.

LCS EcoBuild have a great track record of bringing projects to life, and we’re delighted to have them as part of this exciting journey.

We can’t wait to see the Egmont Street Pavilion take shape and become a fantastic space for our community. 💙

NEW PROJECT WON 🏗️🌿

We’re pleased to announce that LCS EcoBuild, working alongside Works4U Support Services , will be delivering the new Egmont Street Pavilion in Mossley.

It’s a brilliant local project and one we’re genuinely proud to be involved with. The new pavilion will create a modern, accessible community space designed to serve local people for years to come.

We’re looking forward to getting started, seeing the project take shape and sharing plenty of progress from site along the way.

A big thank you to everyone involved in getting the project to this stage. Now it’s time to build. 👷‍♂️

While it's the summer holidays here at Works4U, our wonderful R&R Shop is still open!

We have lots of fabulous finds in store, including our new dog patterned insulated flasks.🐶🐾

Our shelves are also stocked with unique handmade crafts, lovingly made by our talented learners.🎭

We're open Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00am to 2:30pm and we'd love to see you!💛

Today was International Self-Care Day.

The date – 24/7 – is a reminder that looking after our physical and mental wellbeing isn't something we should only think about once in a while. Self-care is something we all deserve, every day.

Self-care doesn't have to mean expensive spa days or big lifestyle changes. It can be as simple as:
• Taking a short walk
• Drinking enough water
• Getting some rest
• Talking to someone you trust
• Taking a break from social media
• Spending time doing something you enjoy

At Works4U, we know that when people look after their wellbeing, they're better able to learn, grow and achieve their goals. Taking time to care for yourself isn't selfish – it's essential.

✨ On the 2nd of July, Works4U had the privilege of attending the GM Skills Awards 2026.

We were incredibly proud to have two shortlisted finalists at this year's awards. Our fantastic student, Zander, was shortlisted for the 16–19 Learner of the Year award, and our CEO, Wendy, was shortlisted for her outstanding contribution to further education. 💛

Although we didn't take home the awards this year, being shortlisted is an incredible achievement and a true reflection of the hard work, dedication and impact of both Zander and Wendy.

It was a wonderful evening celebrating the achievements of learners and staff across Greater Manchester, and we're so proud to have been part of it.

Congratulations to all of the nominees and winners, and thank you to the organisers for a fantastic evening. Here are a few lovely photos from the night! 💙

Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes in our Creative Digital Skills department?

Some of our fantastic students took viewers on a hilarious MTV Cribs-inspired tour, showcasing the spaces where creativity comes to life!

From our professional podcast studio and immersive VR equipment, to our calming sensory room and creative classroom, the team gave a fun look at the facilities our learners use every day to build confidence, develop digital skills and bring their ideas to life.

A huge well done to everyone who took part—you were all brilliant!
