Celebrating incredible milestones with my clients Wayne & Tracy on there stroke recovery journey! They both went from being in hospital beds on the same stroke unit to finding there strengths in the gym and constantly smashing all the goals we set by keeping motivated staying consistent & always being positive. Recovery is very different for these two as there strokes affect them in different ways, it has been a challenge for me understanding there individual needs and tailoring exercises to there specific needs but I enjoy the journey as much as they do and I’m grateful to be part of there progress! Looking forward to many more victories together 💪🏾

Wayne Shayler and I have been putting a lot of focus into un assisted walking recently, these are some of the drills we have been working on during our sessions, practicing day to day movements like stepping over an elevated surface & learning how to regain balance if you stumble or lose balance , strength in the legs and Wayne’s confidence are really improving and progress is looking good, we jus need to focus on improving balance and co-ordination through consistently doing drills such as these which challenge Wayne’s balance and co-ordination.
Keep up the good work Wayne Shayler 💪🏾💪🏾

FUNCTIONAL FITNESS

This is a follow on from my previous post in which I explained what functional fitness is and showed a video of my client performing a functional workout tailored to his needs and ability, in this video you can see how we translate some of the movements in that workout into performing a task my client might come across in daily life, here we practice getting up from the floor and walking over to somewhere safe to sit unassisted which could happen if he was to fall over. He makes it look so easy due to his hard work determination and winners mindset which is key to his recovery! keep up the hard work 💪🏾

WHAT IS FUNCTIONAL FITNESS?

Functional fitness is a type of exercise that supports your body in everyday life by using movements that mimic activities performed in daily life such as bending, lifting, squatting, pulling pushing and so on….functional fitness can be adapted to anyone of any age or ability. It can range complex high intensity barbell circuits for more fit and abled individuals all they way to basic movement like picking up an item off the floor, standing up and sitting down on a chair for less able and potentially older individuals it is an highly effective & inclusive form of exercise which I like to use with my clients.

Here is an example of me & a client performing a simple functional fitness circuit which can translate into daily lifestyle, watch my next post to see how we translated this circuit into daily activity!
