Friday was a busy day in Cairo, oh sorry I mean Cotton! We wrote our name in hieroglyphics; made a tomb and sealed it with items inside; we made a scarab beetle out of clay; we tasted some Egyptian flat breads; played a game of Sennet and made a shaduf to get water out of the Nile.

πŸ’™βš½ TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE βš½πŸ’™

Hi everyone,

My name is Neil, and I’ve had the privilege of working with ASM Sports for 11 years and DNA FC for the past 5 years.

In May 2025, my partner Joanne was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) after experiencing symptoms for several months. MND is a devastating disease that has completely changed our lives and the lives of our families.

Today, Joanne faces incredible challenges every day, including:

πŸ”Ή No mobility
πŸ”Ή No ability to speak
πŸ”Ή Communication through eye-gaze technology
πŸ”Ή Assisted breathing via a tracheostomy
πŸ”Ή Oxygen support on certain days
πŸ”Ή Regular chest infections, including pneumonia
πŸ”Ή Receiving food and fluids through a PEG tube
πŸ”Ή Significant complications affecting her heart, intestines and stomach
πŸ”Ή Episodes of dangerously high blood pressure and heart rate

Throughout this journey, the MND Association has provided our family with outstanding support. They are helping to fund Joanne’s care home placement, where she receives specialist care, including a dedicated 1-to-1 nurse who assists with her breathing, cough management and essential daily care.

As a family, we want to give something back to this amazing charity that has helped us so much.

Class 3 have been studying rivers in geography. They have completed a study of the river Churnet today. The children measured the width and flow of the water. They then looked at the quality of the water and completed observational drawings.

Free School Meals Expansion – don’t miss out…
The government have now expanded the criteria for Free school meals. From September 2026 any household that receives Universal Credit can claim free school meals for their child. This could mean a saving of up Β£505 per year and applies to any household receiving Universal Credit, regardless of your income.

Families who already receive free school meals will continue to do so as long as they meet the new criteria. However, if you are now eligible to claim under the expanded criteria, it is important that you apply as soon as possible.

You can apply for free school meals directly to local authority with the following link.
