Rocketeer Orbit builds digital workforces for businesses - real automated workflows that take the admin grind off business owners so they can get back to growing. Our Orbit platform is live, clients are paying, and demand is outpacing us. That's why this seat exists.
This is a founding-team role. You'll shape how we build, not just clear a backlog. When a project hits a wall, you're who the team turns to.
🛠 What you'll do:
Architect and build backend systems for bespoke client work, brief to delivery
Help build Orbit, the core product the business runs on
Put LLMs into real production - Claude & OpenAI wired in with retries, rate limits, structured outputs and human review (not prompt demos)
Harden AI-assisted prototypes into client-ready software
Ship iOS & Android apps through to App Store / Google Play
Build agent workflows linking AI to email, CRM & Slack
Run infra on Cloudflare & AWS, payments via Stripe, messaging via Twilio
Keep everything secure by design and UK GDPR compliant
💡 What we're after:
Depth in a modern backend stack, real experience shipping production systems on top of LLMs, and the judgement to pick the right tool for each job and defend that choice (including pushing back on us when we're wrong).
📦 The stack: PHP/MySQL, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Swift/SwiftUI, React Native, Claude for Platforms, Claude Code, AWS, Cloudflare, Stripe.
📍 Hybrid. Stafford HQ 1–2 days a week, remote the rest
💷 £40k–£55k DOE + EMI share options

How long do you think a rat will keep swimming if it knows it's going to be saved?
The answer (from Curt Richter's Johns Hopkins study) is 60 hours.
Not 6.

That was one of the moments at our 5th session yesterday at the University of Wolverhampton Science Park - a room full of business owners getting under the skin of how AI can genuinely support their growth.
The Richter study lands because it's not really about rats. It's about hope.
The psychological belief that rescue was possible. In business, belief and hope multiply output exponentially.
A few of the other things we got into:
→ What's your organisation's "magic flower"? Dumbo (yes, the Disney elephant! 🐘) had the physiological ability to fly, but needed the psychological safety net to unlock his potential. AI is the modern Magic Feather for business. Your teams have the talent; AI gives them the power to fly, but the power remains inside your people.
→ What's your primary bottleneck? Because AI applied to the wrong constraint just makes you better at doing the wrong thing, faster.
→ Why a gated, private AI matters. Pasting your client data, contracts and IP into a public model isn't using AI - it's giving your business away. There's a real difference between AI you control and AI that controls what happens to your data.
5 sessions in and the conversations keep getting sharper. Owners aren't asking should we use AI? anymore.
They're asking "how do we use it without losing what makes us, us?"
That's the right question.
