At my recent nursery class at , the little ones learnt one of the most important kitchen skills - how to chop!

We practised important (& safe) knife skills as we made a deliciously healthy bulgar wheat salad 🥗, and the little ones really impressed me with their abilities!

They may find it tricky at first but it all goes to help with their , contributing to their hand writing as they prepare for school. 🏫

We also learnt:
🤔 What bulgar wheat is
🤔 The difference between fruit and veg
🤔 How grains can benefit us
🤔 That cheese doesn’t just come from cows
🤔 That salads can be hydrating
And much much more…

The kids are so inquisitive that it’s hard for me (& my friendly puppet Katy Custard) to not keep giving them new titbits of info when it comes to food!

In the most recent session with EarlyCare Eccleshall, we make apple and blackberry bread.

It’s an easy, fun, tasty and healthy dish that everyone enjoyed making and, hopefully, they’ll repeat at home again and again!

We also talked about apples; their parts, where they grow and the nutrients they give us and we had fun colouring in their different parts, enhancing our pencil skills at the same time (perfect for those heading to school soon!).

Our last class at before the summer holidays was lots of fun. 🌞🌞

It was a packed class with some of the holiday club joining us as we made tasty cheesecakes with homemade chia jam on top. 🍓

For many of the children, it was our last session together with me and Katy Custard, as they’ll be starting school in September. It was sad to say goodbye to them but also rewarding to see how much they have grown and developed over the last year.

Our cookery classes as well as the fab teaching and nurturing at Early Care in Eccleshall has meant they have developed:
🤌🏼 fine motor skills
👯 friendships
🙌 sharing skills
🌍 knowledge about the world around us
🍌 understanding of health and nutrition
👂 listening skills
🎭 creativity

I’ll be back in September with a new class and wish the very best to our leavers. I hope they continue their baking at home and carry on mastering the essential kitchen skills they have picked up over the last few months 🔪🥣👩🏼‍🍳🥄
