As part of Black History Month, thirteen Year 7 scholars joined in the Black Heroes of Mathematics Youth Festival for an exciting interactive Zoom session with Dr Jason S Anquandah and Dr Herb Daly👏

They discovered how Artificial Intelligence is transforming our world, explored the mathematics behind the technology, and heard from inspiring Black professionals leading innovation in this rapidly growing field. Scholars took part in engaging activities, and found out how our curiosity and creativity could help shape the future!

Our Language Leaders hosted our European Day of Languages event in our library and invited our KS3 scholars to try some fun and exciting activities in several languages🌍

European Day of Languages is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the rich mix of languages spoken in Europe and indeed in our Longsands community. The EU has 24 official languages and many of these are the home languages of our Longsands scholars alongside English.

Language learning helps us to understand other cultures and build stronger relationships. Not only does it enhance job prospects but it also to build social skills, self-esteem and boosts brain flexibility, memory, concentration and creativity.

Well done to our Language Leaders for supporting our KS3 scholars in trying out the various language activities!👏

Year 11 scholars have been exploring their individual ideas after looking at a range of artists🎨

They have explored photography, mark-making, dry point etching, and painting. In Year 11, scholars work to their own individual strengths and choose the media of their choice, meaning there is a wide variety of choice and so much going on each lesson!

Once again, we are bringing together a fantastic range of local and national employers, universities, colleges and apprenticeship providers to inspire and inform our scholars about the wide range of pathways and opportunities available to them!

This year, scholars from all year groups will have the opportunity to attend, giving them the chance to explore different careers, ask questions, discover future pathways and have meaningful conversations with professionals from a wide range of sectors.

We would be delighted if you could join us and help our scholars raise their aspirations, broaden their horizons and make informed decisions about their futures.

We had an incredible Open Evening yesterday and were delighted to welcome so many prospective scholars and their families through our doors!🎓

During the evening, families had the opportunity to explore our subjects through a wide range of interactive activities. Future historians took part in a live archaeological dig, uncovering a Roman mosaic, while in Music they got hands-on with instruments including the drum kit and keyboards.

In PE, their skills were tested with basketball and trampolining, while Science showcased some exciting experiments, including vacuum marshmallows, heart dissections and colourful flame tests.

A huge thank you to our staff and scholar ambassadors who helped make the evening such a success. We loved meeting so many enthusiastic Year 6s and their families, and look forward to welcoming them back soon.

We'd like to also say a special thank you to our scholar guides and subject helpers, you were simply outstanding! Thank you for being such exceptional ambassadors for Longsands, sharing your experiences with pride, confidence and enthusiasm. We are incredibly proud of you all✨
