In the Baby Room, the babies took part in a “Can You Rescue the Animals?” activity, exploring animal figures. The practitioners placed the animal figures in a tuff tray and carefully attached them using pieces of masking tape, with the name of each animal displayed alongside it. The practitioners used the animals’ names, to name and identify them as the babies explored.
The babies were encouraged to use their hands and fingers to reach, touch, grasp and pull at the tape to rescue the animals. We observed lots of curiosity, concentration and determination as they explored how the tape could be peeled away.
This activity provided wonderful opportunities to support the babies’ fine motor development, hand-eye coordination and finger strength. The small movements involved in grasping and pulling the tape encouraged the babies to practise using their fingers with increasing control.
As the babies explored, the practitioners repeated the animal names using simple, clear language, supporting their communication and language development through meaningful interactions.
We observed the babies investigating the different textures, movements and possibilities of the activity, showing excitement and interest as each animal was gradually rescued.
This activity supported the babies’ physical development, communication and language, concentration and curiosity, while encouraging them to explore and learn through hands-on play at their own pace.

Jellyfish crafts🪼
Following on from the childrens intrests of under the sea, in the Baby room practitioner facilitated a jellyfish arts and crafts activity. The babies enjoy creating their very own jellyfish using paper plates, purple paint and soft pink tissue paper. They eagerly explore the different textures as they paint and stick the tissue paper to make long, flowing tentacles. The activity encourages the babies to develop their fine motor skills as they grasp the paint brushes and glue sticks while expressing their creativity. We talk about the jellyfish, introducing new words such as tentacles, sea, ocean, sting and purple, helping to build early language and communication skills. The babies loved in watching their colourful jellyfish come to life as they explore this fun ocean-themed craft.

In the baby room a particular intrest of the children is under-the-sea. The practitioners faccilitated a fun and messy starfish bubble wrap printing activity. The children dipped a starfish shape piece of bubble wrap
into the blue and green paint before pressing it onto the paper to create colourful and textured prints. The babies explored the bumpy bubble wrap with their hands and fingers, watching as the paint transfers onto the paper, and enjoy seeing the patterns they created. The children were encouraged to press, pat, and lift the starfish, helping them understand simple cause and effect.
This activity provided a valuable sensory experience, allowing the babies to explore different textures, colours, and materials in a safe and enjoyable way. It supported the development of fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and finger strength as they pressed and handled the starfish template. The sea-life theme also introduced the children to new shapes and helped build their awareness of the world around them.
During the activity the practitioners used simple vocabulary with the babies about the colours, textures, and shapes they could see and feel, supporting their early language development. The children were encouraged to explore at their own pace, make their own marks, and enjoy the creative process. Each piece of artwork was unique, showing the babies' individual creativity and curiosity.

🍌❄️ Let's Make Frozen Yogurt Ice Lollies! ❄️🍦
In the Baby Room, the babies have enjoyed a fun and engaging sensory cooking activity as we made frozen yogurt ice lollies together!
We carefully modelled each step while encouraging the babies to have a go for themselves. First, we demonstrated how to mash the banana with a fork, then provided each child the opportunity to explore and mash their own banana's. Next, we added the yogurt before encouraging the babies to do the same, and finally demonstrated how to mix everything to combine it together. Once the ice lollies were frozen the children enjoyed these as a yummy snack to keep cool on the warm weather.
Throughout the activity, we introduced and repeated key vocabulary such as mash, mix, banana, yogurt, cold, and freeze, supporting the babies' early communication and language development.
This hands-on experience supported many areas of learning and development such as using their fine motor skills through mashing and mixing. Developing their communication and language by hearing and learning new words and enhanced their understanding of the world by exploring ingredients and discovering what happens when food is frozen. The activity also encouraged sensory exploration, concentration and following simple instructions, and supported the babies' personal, social, and emotional development by building confidence, independence, and enjoyment through play.
This activity is a wonderful way to explore, learn, and have fun together with a perfect summer activity to help our little ones cool down and enjoy a refreshing frozen treat! ☀️🍦💛
