Road Safety Awareness🏍️

This week, our Year 12 and Year 13 scholars took part in an informative road safety presentation delivered by AJ, Casualty Reduction Officer for Cambridgeshire Constabulary.

The session shared important information about the Fatal Five offences and highlighted the importance of developing experience, awareness and safe driving habits during the early stages of a driving career.

A huge thank you to AJ and Cambridgeshire Constabulary as the presentation provided valuable guidance and practical advice, helping our scholars to better understand the responsibilities that come with being a road user and how they can keep themselves and others safe.

We were delighted to welcome two of our alumni last week✨

Our first former scholar, who studied Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths, shared her experience of securing a place to study Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge. She spoke about the importance of researching courses early, beginning her UCAS preparations in Year 12, and preparing for admissions assessments and interviews. She also shared how her interests have evolved, leading her towards a Master's in Prosthetics and Orthotics, where she is now combining academic study with practical placements.

Our second alumnus spoke about his route into Engineering. After receiving an Arkwright Engineering Scholarship, he realised engineering was the career path he wanted to pursue. Having studied Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Music Technology, he is now following a Manufacturing Engineering pathway, where he also has chosen to complete industry experiences through work placements each summer.

Both speakers offered valuable advice to our scholars, highlighting the importance of exploring career options early, researching university courses thoroughly, and taking part in extracurricular opportunities linked to their future ambitions.

We would like to thank both alumni for returning to Longsands and sharing their experiences. Their insights were inspiring and provided our scholars with a real understanding of the opportunities available beyond Sixth Form🎓

Official unveiling of our refurbished Sixth Form building! ✨

Yesterday, we were delighted to officially unveil our newly refurbished Sixth Form building, celebrating an exciting new chapter for our scholars and wider community.

We were proud to welcome Cllr Catherine Goodman, St Neots Mayor, Ian Sollom MP, Rowena Hackwood, Astrea Academy Trust CEO, parents, scholars and staff, who joined us to explore the transformed space and celebrate all that it has to offer.

Guests were able to see photos of how the building looked before, showcasing just how far the refurbishment has come. The new facilities include a fantastic café and common room, dedicated study areas and spaces that can also be used by the local community.

We were also thrilled to welcome our Year 11 Media scholars, who captured interviews with attendees as part of their work with the Black Cat Radio show. 🎙️ They gained valuable insight into how our Sixth Form scholars feel about their new working space, as well as hearing the thoughts and experiences of our guests.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and to all those who helped make this transformation possible. We’re incredibly proud of the finished building and excited to see our scholars make the most of these fantastic new spaces!

To round off the two days of setting up for success, our Year 12s have participated in a series of team building activities led by the RAF.

Working together to complete a range of activities, scholars developed key transferable skills such as teamwork, communication and leadership, helping them build confidence and strong foundations for the year ahead.

They have had great fun, and we can already see the confidence in our Sixth Form community growing as they settle in. Now it's time to put those skills and positive habits into practice as lessons begin on Monday.

We can't wait to see what this amazing cohort achieves!🎓
