A little bit about our fantastic venue for our piano course, thank you Real St Andrews!

The Laidlaw Music Centre is one of the University of St Andrews’ most striking modern buildings and a major hub for music in the town. Located on Queen’s Terrace, it provides purpose-built spaces for performances, rehearsals, recording, teaching and individual practice.

At the heart of the building is the McPherson Recital Room, designed specifically for chamber music and featuring adjustable acoustics to suit different types of performance. The centre is used by students, university ensembles, visiting musicians and members of the wider St Andrews community.

Opened in 2020, the Laidlaw Music Centre has quickly become an important part of the cultural life of St Andrews, combining contemporary architecture with world-class facilities for music and performance.

At 𝐌𝐨𝐥𝐭𝐨𝐏𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐨, we love inviting musicians from around the world to share their artistry with us, because there’s always something new to learn.

This time, we were delighted to welcome Italian flutist 𝐔𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐝𝐨 𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐨 and pianist 𝐀𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚 𝐕𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐚 𝐓𝐚𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢, who travelled from Italy to perform a fantastic recital for our students, teachers, and the wider public in St Andrews.

Their visit gave our students and teachers the chance to be inspired by two wonderful musicians and experience the beauty of live performance. 🎶

It might look like autumn has arrived, but our minds are still back in those wonderful summer days, when we had so much fun enjoying our courses by the seaside. 🌊☀️🎶

Our participants travelled from Sweden, Norway, Spain, Romania, Hungary, Denmark, Estonia, Portugal, Italy and the Netherlands, alongside many pianists from England and, of course, Scotland.

What a wonderful, international celebration of music and friendship! 🎹❤️

Our students love the spaces and instruments on offer in the award winning Laidlaw Music Centre, our home in St Andrews for the week. The McPherson Recital Room, pictured, and its fabulous Steinway hosts masterclasses and concerts for our students and international guest performers.
