The Scottish Chamber Orchestra is back in St Andrews! Join us next Saturday for the launch of the 2026/27 SCO St Andrews Season as Stephanie Gonley directs the Orchestra in a vibrant programme.

Haydn: Symphony no. 101, ‘Clock’

Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin opens the evening, its Baroque elegance infused with French colour. SCO Principal Cello Philip Higham stars in Saint-Saëns’ First Cello Concerto, a brilliant showcase of lyricism and flair. Haydn’s Symphony No. 101 ‘The Clock’ closes proceedings – a witty, inventive work whose irrepressible energy is sure to delight.

Join us for Global Wagnerism, a dual event including a study day and evening concert celebrating Richard Wagner!

The day-long conference will highlight the enduring impact of Richard Wagner on Western and non-Western art from the late 19th century to the present. Presentations will include Bayreuth as a global centre and Wagnerism in Europe, the US, Japan, Burkina Faso and Australia, as well as theoretical reflections on Wagner’s claims of universality.

The event is organised by British Academy Postdoctoral Fellows Adeline Heck of the School of Modern Languages at St Andrews and Timothy Anderson of the University of East Anglia, with contributions from Nicholas Vazsonyi (Clemson), Michael Downes (St Andrews), Kerry Murphy (Melbourne), Sasha Savannah Doster (Columbia), Emma Sutton (St Andrews), Josh Torabi (UCL), Brooke Okazaki (Carleton College), Sarah Hegenbarth (Heidelberg) and John Deathridge (KCL).

We are delighted to announce our first celebrity concert of the academic year: 'Music of the Night', a piano recital by Susan Tomes!

Winner of several Gramophone awards, an RPO award with the Florestan Trio, and author of eight acclaimed books, Susan Tomes returns to St Andrews with
a programme celebrating the Nocturne. A colourful array of nocturnal music by composers including John Field, Clara Schumann, Poulenc, Janáček and Grieg prefaces a complete performance of Robert Schumann’s turbulent tribute to the writing of E.T.A. Hoffmann, Kreisleriana.

Pre-concert talk: Susan Tomes discusses her new book ‘Nocturnes and the Fascination of Night Music’ with Robert Philip at 18:45. Free to concert ticket holders.

An enormous thank you to everyone who performed at, organised, and attended St Andrews Organ Week 2026!

It was a packed week, with four evening concerts by leading musicians, panel discussions on music history and theory, and workshops, including the Orgelkids workshop at the Wardlaw Museum where children were introduced to the basics of organ music.

We had fantastic performances by Andrew Forbes and Kirsty Main (Night 1, St Andrews), Bine Bryndorf and Camille Bloche (Night 2, Dundee), Henry Fairs and Nabil Hanna (Night 3, St Andrews), and our closing concert by Simon Harden and Steven McIntyre (Night 4, Dunblane).

After a wonderful opening night concert from Andrew Forbes and Kirsty Main, we look ahead to what the rest of Organ Week has in store!

Tonight don't miss Bine Katrine Bryndorf and Camille Bloche performing excerpts of Scandinavian Romanticism in Dundee (7.30pm)!

And tomorrow once again in St Andrews we have Nabil Hanna and Henry Fairs performing the organ music of Rued Langgaard, and to close out on Thursday, Simon Harden and Steven McIntyre will perform 20th century music from Denmark at Dunblane Cathedral.
