We offer a full range of activities throughout the day with emphasis is on safe supervised outdoor play. Our courtyard garden has excellent core provision for children to play and learn in and ta

We have good relationships with the local farms, often visiting to see the sheep, alpacas, and horses. We have two forest areas that the children use often, you can usually find us out and about on Kinaldy estate. Activities vary daily, according to the seasons, children’s interests and/or topics covering the pre-birth to three and the curriculum for excellence, with an emphasis on health and well-being. We encourage parent involvement in all areas of our nursery and love to have parents and carers visit us and spend time in the nursery with the children.

What we’ve been up to at Acorn!🎓🏅⚽️🌱🐔🚦

We have been SUPER busy!
🎓 We celebrated our school leavers with our annual graduation! This was a lovely afternoon with the families celebrating their journey at Acorn.
🐔Our chickens moved into their forever home in the garden, we have been enjoying watching them move around.
🏅We hosted our annual sports day where we all raced in our teams! This was great fun.
🌱The children have been working hard planting in the garden. This will allow us to use some home grown veg in our meals. We have been learning about plants and engaged with family farms to learn about the different things they grow.
🚦Some of us headed out on a trip into town to learn about road safety. We identified different signs and crossings, and stopped for a play at the beach.
🐘Our home-link Baby Simoa has been going home and learning all about how to stay safe! The children have been doing great teaching Simoa how to stay safe out and about and at home.

🐘SIMOA Home-Link

Meet Baby SIMOA! She will go home with the children to learn how to be safe.
The children’s job is to teach Baby SIMOA how to be safe in their home and out and about.
We use SIMOA in the nursery as a mascot for health and safety, she reminds us to keep tidy, where to wear shoes and to look out for hazards out on walks.
Families will get involved with learning with SIMOA and build up a partnership between home and nursery.

Today we have been talking about jobs and role playing some of them with our peers.

This morning we were hairdressers, using brushes in a downwards motion to not tangle the hair. 💇🏼‍♀️💇🏽

This afternoon we have spent time in the sensory room talking about different types of medical jobs. 🏥

We got the stuffed animals out, bandaged them up and gave them medicine to make them feel better. We talked about what this job is called and what vets do to animals and the types of animals they help. 🐾

Then we got the first aid kit out and role played being doctors and how they help us. We looked through the first aid kit at all the different bandages and plasters, using them on our peers. 👩🏼‍⚕️👨🏽‍⚕️

We then got the big teeth out and talked about dentists and our teeth. 🦷

Dinosaur hunt 🦖

During our forest session we went on the hunt for dinosaurs bones and we found lots! During our hunt we found T-Rex 🦖 feet and leg, diplodocus neck and head, pterodactyl wings and lots more. Some of the children even identified some food that dinosaurs would eat! They worked together to find all the bones and name what they thought they were.

Yesterday, the children enjoyed a wonderful role-play experience inspired by their interests and ideas. Recently, they have been spending lots of time creating cafés in the home corner, so we decided to extend this interest by setting up our very own café together.

We began by having a group discussion about what we should call our café. After sharing lots of suggestions, the children voted and chose the name "The Honeypot Café."

Next, we explored the kitchen cupboards together, to see what ingredients and resources we already had available. The children helped to identify different foods and drinks that could be included on our menu. Once we had decided what we could offer, we worked together to create menus, adding pictures alongside the items to help everyone recognise what was available.

The children then helped to gather and prepare the food ready for opening. During this process, we discussed how cafés and restaurants prepare their food before customers arrive, explaining that being organised helps service run smoothly and ensures customers receive their orders quickly.

The children thoroughly enjoyed taking on different roles within the café, including chefs, servers, and customers. Throughout the activity, they developed their communication skills, teamwork, problem-solving abilities, and understanding of the world around them, all while having lots of fun following their interests.

🦅🦜🪶🪺

The seeds have been very interested in birds this week.

Today we have talked about different birds and their names, we listened to the different sounds they make developing our listening and communication skills.

We then created our own telescopes using glue and tissue paper then headed out to the garden to search for birds.
