📣 PARENTS OF GCSE SPANISH STUDENTS...
If I could give you just ONE piece of advice, it would be this:
Don't wait until Year 11 to build confidence.
Languages aren't something students can simply cram a few weeks before an exam.
Vocabulary, grammar, listening skills and—especially—speaking confidence develop gradually.
The good news?
Your child doesn't need hours and hours of extra work.
✨ Little and often can make an enormous difference.
Save this for September 📌 and send it to another GCSE parent who might find it useful.

The correct answer is:
✅ Estoy estudiando español.
Remember:
🔹 -AR → -ANDO
🔹 -ER/-IR → -IENDO
These little grammar mistakes are exactly the kind we want to fix BEFORE the GCSE exam.

One of the questions I’m asked most often is:
“Is Year 9 too early to start preparing for GCSE Spanish?”
My answer is always the same…
No, as long as the preparation is gradual, supportive and appropriate for their age.
Students who start developing their vocabulary, speaking skills and confidence in Year 9 often enjoy Spanish more and feel much less overwhelmed later.
My aim isn’t to make students work harder or put them under pressure.
It’s to help them build strong foundations and feel more confident, one lesson at a time. 🇪🇸

❌ Stop relying on: “Me gusta… porque es divertido.”
It isn’t incorrect—but if students want to produce stronger GCSE Spanish answers, they need to develop their opinions with more precise vocabulary and varied structures.
Try this upgrade:
❌ Me gusta el español porque es divertido.
✅ Me encanta aprender español porque me permite comunicarme con otras personas y descubrir culturas diferentes.
Why is the second version stronger?
⭐ A more expressive opinion
⭐ “Me permite + infinitive”
⭐ Two developed reasons
⭐ More precise vocabulary
Students don’t need to memorise enormous, unnatural paragraphs. They need flexible structures that they can confidently adapt to different GCSE topics.
This is exactly the kind of sentence development we practise in my GCSE Spanish lessons.

Is your child starting Year 9 in September? 🇪🇸
One of the biggest misconceptions about GCSE Spanish is that students only need to begin preparing seriously in Year 10 or Year 11.
In reality, Year 9 is the perfect time to start building the foundations gradually—without unnecessary pressure.
Vocabulary is important, but students also need regular opportunities to:
✅ form complete sentences
✅ express and justify opinions
✅ understand how GCSE questions work
✅ speak without fearing mistakes
✅ develop confidence over time
As a qualified teacher with over 18 years of experience, I’ve seen how much difference early, consistent support can make.

The biggest GCSE Spanish myth...
Many parents think Year 9 is too early to prepare.
I actually believe it's the best time.
Not because students should spend hours revising...
But because confidence is built gradually.
Students need time to build confidence, improve their speaking, develop grammar naturally and learn to think in Spanish.
That's why I always recommend starting in Year 9.
The students who usually feel calm in Year 11 are the ones who started building good habits much earlier.
If your child is moving into Year 9 this September, now is the perfect time to start building those foundations.
