I always try to end our days with a cosy book snuggle before home time. A bit of special quiet time where we settle in together and let the story wrap around us.
I adore this book. And if you live near us and heard little voices proudly proclaiming “I am brave… I am beautiful… I am powerful…” — that was my little mates. Their joy carried right out the door.

I am so proud of them — their voices, their confidence, their growing sense of who they are. What a way to end the day.

As everyone knows we love reading here — the quiet moments, the shared giggles, the way a story can gather us all in. And part of that love is choosing our books with care.

As we step into Black History Month, I’ve picked stories that celebrate joy, identity and community. Books that help us see the world through different lenses, honour family traditions, and explore the bright colours of African storytelling. I want my little mates to see a wide world in their books — different families, different cultures, different ways of living and loving.

These are some of my favourites, chosen mindfully to help us read beyond our own doorstep — but I’d love to discover more. If you have any recommendations I might be missing out on, I’m always grateful to hear them.

A gentle beginning to a month of learning through love and curiosity and the magic of books!
