Moulton Music

Moulton Music Inspiring, cello and piano tuition for children, adults, beginners, advanced and diploma work. Conse TESTIMONIALS:

‘Yesterday was my Graduation day.

Glenis Malkin has been a highly successful and sought-after cello and piano teacher for over 30 years. A graduate of London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Glenis played professionally in London with orchestras including The Orchestra of St John's Smith Square and the BBC. She was awarded the Guildhall School Cello Prize and the Jenny Hayman Memorial Prize and a Shell/London Symphony Orches

tra Scholarship. Many of her students have gone on into the professional playing world and become teachers in their own right. She is an experienced director of children's and student ensembles and has also worked as an examiner for Trinity College, London.. I must thank you so much, so much, so much. Without you I would never have had the chance to study in the Royal College of Music, hence cannot graduate from there. It has been six years since I first met you, and in these years I have learned so much from you, as a cellist, as a musician and as a human. Glenis, you are a wonderful cello teacher. I have enjoyed learning cello from you in the past and I will always remember what you have told me’. Fan Yeung, now conductor of the Hong Kong University Students’ Orchestra

‘Dear Mrs Malkin, I started doing the cello because I liked the instrument, but now I am looking forward to the lessons not just because I loved playing the lovely music, but because I think you are a great teacher. I hope I have a great big career with my cello and I hope you are the one who taught me.’
Lia, aged 9

‘I have such fond memories of your truly wonderful, warm and unique teaching’. Former pupil Gabriella Swallow

"Glenis Malkin has been a marvellous role model for my daughter. Her endless knowledge of music has inspired her during each lesson and consequently she has achieved a distinction at each grade. She has taught her to play confidently and sensitively; playing a wide range of contemporary and classical pieces. She is a fantastic teacher and has enabled my daughter to grow in confidence as a musician - long may it continue!"

Good luck to everyone taking an exam this morning. Enjoy the chance to perform your music after all your hard work! You'll all be fabulous!

Two more pupils bagged very comfortable MERIT passes in this term's exams. Well done Anjali and Emelia. Also huge congratulations to Hari who won his school's young musician of the year trophy against children much older than him. Proud of you all.

Can I remind my students that I don't care what Boris Johnson has said we are allowed to do now - or ever! Please don't come here if your child or anyone in your household has Covid. I still plan to keep it out of my home for as long as possible. Thanks for your consideration.

Another year without a pupils' concert and my last week of lessons ends tonight with online teaching as Covid soared in this area last week and I took the decision to keep everyone away so our Christmas wasn't spoiled by illness. Thanks parents this term who have been so considerate and well done students who (mostly) have worked hard! Lessons resume here on January 11th 2022 unless Covid rules change. Watch this space! Merry Christmas.

The last lesson of the academic year has now been taught and I'm closing the music room doors until September. Goodness knows how lessons will continue then, but for now, let's all enjoy the summer. Well done everyone. Thank you for all the end of term gifts and cards - you're a lovely lot. x

Since Covid struck the country senseless I've tried my best to continue music lessons for all my students. I won't lie, online lessons were draining with patchy Internet, delayed sound, distorted sound, distracted pupils and a variety of home settings and instruments (and their interesting tuning 😬). I persevered, and to their great credit, so did 90% of my students. They came back to my studio for socially distanced lessons at Easter, not ideal, but a big step forward from via a computer screen. Many have been waiting to take grade exams. They resumed this month face to face and I'm delighted everyone who I entered for exams gained a very good MERIT, including a Grade 8 cellist and two Grade 5 pianists. Well done, I'm really proud of the resilience and dedication you have all demonstrated.

Wishing my pupils luck and success in the coming days as they take face-to-face music exams again. Enjoy sharing all the music you have learned with someone who really appreciates how hard you've been working in difficult circumstances. Don't panic if you make a mistake, it's not the end of the world and rarely means you've done badly! Enjoy playing and do your best. Everyone is rooting for you.

As many of you know, we love going to the Durham Dales and have been there many times. On one visit, some years ago now, the lady we stayed with for several years pointed out a goose in the meadow with a flock of sheep. She told us a sad tale, which has a happy ending and which I thought should be written down. It's a sweet story for bedtime reading if you're reading to grandchildren aged between 4 and 8. I wrote the story, got a good friend to illustrate it and there it sat. Until lockdown. The perfect chance to get things finished off. We have self-published a few copies and if anyone would like it, they are just £3 each, including p&p just to cover the printing costs. Please pm me.
