Spalding Academy

Spalding Academy The Official Spalding Academy Lincolnshire Page Spalding Academy (previously Sir John Gleed School) was created by the amalgamation of two good schools.

We are a co-educational school with a modern outlook and a focus on high achievement. We work closely with parents and carers to ensure every child is both supported and challenged. Parents/carers are invited to two meetings each year and we are developing our learning gateway which allows constant access to your child’s progress data, so that you can arrange a meeting at any time if concerns aris

e. The Head of Year for your child’s year will monitor progress and celebrate success, as well as offering guidance when needed. We believe that a pleasant working environment is vital if your child is to succeed. As well as large, well-equipped classrooms, we have specialist facilities in a range of areas. We also care for your child’s personal welfare. Some of our strengths include:

A Student Support Manager for each year group who helps to ensure that nothing inside or outside of school is allowed to interfere with learning. Cashless catering so that your child does not need to worry about bringing money to school each day. Easy to use and impossible to lose, this puts many minds at rest when it comes to your child being properly fed during the day, especially as we are a healthy school. Three food outlets, serving a range of hot and cold foods, ensuring queues are kept down. Individual cubicles instead of toilet blocks. A major concern when starting secondary school can be the toilets. Our new facilities reduce these anxieties, while providing a pleasant environment for all. A purpose built student reception, supporting students throughout the day.

Students and staff at Spalding Academy are celebrating yet another fantastic year of academic and vocational success with highly impressive results across the diverse curriculum of 22 different GCSE and BTEC subjects.

In addition to English and Mathematics, the top four subjects where students have achieved grades 7 to 9 (or equivalent) are Art & Design, Health & Social Care, Information Technology and Travel & Tourism. There has also been a notable increase in grades 9 to 5 in Sports Science and Statistics.

The Year 11 Celebration Prom is a memorable event where our students can celebrate together for one last time before they depart for sixth form or college.

We made sure that our students have the perfect finale after all of their hard work over the last five years by holding the Prom at the Springfield Events & Conference Centre in Spalding.

As is customary at the prom, the students put a lot of effort and thought into what to wear and they arrived in a variety of vehicles including luxury and vintage cars, limousines, bikes, tractors, trucks! Family and friends were able to see students grace the red carpet before celebrating with fellow students and staff.

Students were able to dance the night away at the venue, which was hired out exclusively by Spalding Academy so they could celebrate together in a safe and relaxed environment. At the prom, they also enjoyed a generous buffet, awards ceremony and photo booth as well as a disco.

All of the staff at Spalding Academy and South Lincolnshire Academies Trust wish all of the students every success in the future and we know they will look back at this milestone event with fond memories.

Due to the forecasted extreme weather conditions this week, the Year 6 Transition Day, which was due to take place on Friday 26th June 2026 will now take place on Friday 3rd July 2026.

Friday is expected to be the hottest day of the week, and with a significant number of additional Year 6 students due to join us on site, we feel it would not be appropriate to increase numbers under these conditions.

The Year 6 Transition Day on Friday 3rd July, will run exactly as originally planned, ensuring students receive the full intended experience.

Year 6 parents/carers and their primary schools have been communicated with already.

Spalding Academy will remain open as normal for our current students, with established measures in place to manage the conditions safely.

As we approach the end of the academic year, there is still a diverse enrichment and extra-curricular programme of activities that is inclusive for all students.

There are activities and sessions that take place during lunchtime and after-school that include various sports, subject interventions plus clubs and performances for art, drama, music and much more.

The aim of this programme is not only to develop academic skills, but improve self-confidence, life-skills and leadership experiences as well as being enjoyable.

By attending the extra-curricular activities, it can help students achieve challenges on the Aspire passport where students will receive rewards, so it is worth having a look what is on offer and trying something new.

An incredible array of student artwork was exhibited at a public artwork art exhibition last month. The weekend event took place at The Sessions House in Spalding and featured works from our talented student artists as well as over 40 other local and established artists and sculptors.

This was a fantastic showcase of the diverse range of artwork our students produce with paintings, drawings, textiles, collages and sculptures that had been specially selected from the KS3, KS4 and KS5 students at Bourne Academy, Cowley Academy, Giles Academy and Spalding Academy.

It was an amazing opportunity for students from each of our schools to feature together at an exhibition for the first time and highlight the many styles and techniques taught on the art curriculum.

The feedback over both days was overwhelmingly positive as staff from the art department and our student artists were also in attendance to speak to members of the public as over 1,000 people visited the exhibition.

Rt Hon Sir John Hayes CBE MP attended the event and he said “What a wonderful array of works of art. They epitomised the marriage of unfettered imagination and outstanding talent. Thank you for giving me and many others so much pleasure.”
