Looking for a hands on junior grower.

Country Herbs and Plants is a long-established horticultural business supplying herbs and plants to Garden Centres across the UK. Set on a 7 acre (2.8 Hectare) site, comprising of glasshouses, polytunnels and outdoor growing areas.

We are recruiting an experienced person that wants to grow into the business, with excellent communication skills, able to work alone and within a small team. Willing to do overtime and weekend work during the busy periods.
Tasks would be very varied, as you would expect on a busy family ran nursery, with daily multi-tasking, a hands-on approach and communication with the Nursery Manager, Directors and production staff which would include:
• Crop walking – Monitoring plant health, pests and disease and spotting any issues early

• Automatic Irrigation/Hand watering – having a good knowledge of what the plant needs and when, then applying the relevant irrigation

• Feed tank mixes – mixing a refilling as required

• Potting machine knowledge – Javo or similar

• Transplanting machine knowledge – TTA or similar

• Sowing line knowledge – Urbinati or similar

• Propagation knowledge – we do a lot of our own seed and cutting grown products

• Trimming of young plants

• Forklift duties – License desirable

• Loading and unloading of deliveries and collections, communication with customers

• PA1 and PA6 - Desirable

This is a business where everyone is hands on. The nursery owner, Directors and managers are daily getting involved with all aspects of the business and we would want this person to be able to do the same, with a hands-on approach.

Please only apply if you have some previous horticultural experience and have a basic knowledge of many of the tasks listed above. The right candidate will be trained if they don’t have experience of some areas

Wanted - Plant nursery Operations Assistant (Temporary - 6 months).

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Nursery Worker to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in helping to keep the Nursery running smoothly. This position will be very varied and requires a hands-on approach to various tasks, including making up trollies, attending to customer collections, site cleanliness, helping in production, keeping trays and compost stock available to production. Communication via a 2 way radio.
All training will be provided.
This role is varied and requires a physically fit individual, able to work in all weather conditions, both outside and inside.
A forklift / P**P truck license would be beneficial, but not essential.
Responsibilities
• Dutch trolley making and dismantling.
• Customer collections and deliveries.
• Assist with any heavy lifting tasks, including moving compost, trays, plants, and other materials as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation within the nursery areas.
• A basic computer knowledge for customer collections is required
• Any other jobs around the busy nursery as required.
Skills
• Physically fit individual
• Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently.
• To be proactive, and follow instruction from the nursery manager
• Basic maths skills .

We are looking for a temporary Van driver for Thursdays and Fridays to delivery our trolleys of herbs. There will be about 6-8 weeks work, maybe more depending on how busy we are.

The van is a 3.5t Movano box van and you will be delivering a maximum of 7 deliveries a day, to Garden centres all over the UK. Paid hourly, they can be long days and could included London deliveries.

The job will involve pushing trolleys onto the van via ramp and unloading at each centre.

You must have a clean license (we will require a copy) and be over 25. Could be suitable for someone who has semi retired or retired and is fit and active.

We are a friendly company that lets you get on with the job with minimum interference. Start time in the morning is up to the individual driver, as long as you can complete deliveries before they close.
