The Rushbearing Parade Poem

Come gather, dear children, and hear of the day
When the Rushbearing Parade comes our way.
In late summer’s glow, when the warm breezes blow,
We celebrate Sowerby Bridge, in a colourful show.

Out with the old, the rotten rushes we clear,
Making way for the new, for the fresh ones are near.
We fill up the carts with the green rushes high,
And decorate them with flowers, beneath a bright sky.

With ribbons of colour, and silver that shines,
We add to the rushes these beautiful signs.
And then comes the cart, oh, what a sight!
A tower of rushes, all festive and bright.

Led by the music, the drum, and the dance,
The cart makes its way, in a lively advance.
Sixty strong men, in their hats of Panama,
Pull the cart proudly, near and far.

Dressed in white shirts, black trousers, and clogs,
They march through the streets, over cobbles and logs.
And up on the cart, the fine ladies will ride,
Waving and smiling, with elegance and pride.

In Edwardian dresses, our supporters stroll,
Joining the procession with heart and with soul.
The Morris dancers leap, their bells ringing clear,
Their dances bring joy to all who are near.

So come join the fun, come join in the cheer,
The Rushbearing Parade is finally here!
With flowers, and music, and dancing so grand,
We celebrate together, hand in hand.

Dear children of SB, remember this day,
The joy of tradition, the Sowerby Bridge way.
Keep this story alive, year after year,
For the Rushbearing Parade is a time we hold dear! Sowerby Bridge Rushbearing Festival

πŸ’› To Our SB Nursery Families πŸ’›
Today is a very special day for so many of our little ones as they take their first big steps into primary school. πŸŽ’βœ¨
To all the children who once walked through the doors of SB Nursery, we hope you have the most wonderful first day. Be brave, be kind, make new friends and, most importantly, keep being YOU.
To our parents and families, we know today may bring a few proud and emotional moments too. πŸ₯Ή Look how far your little ones have come!
As Dr. Seuss said:
β€œYou’re off to Great Places! Today is your day!” 🌈✨
We believed in you from the very beginning, and we still believe in you. πŸ’«
Go shine brightly, little stars. ⭐
Your SB Nursery family is cheering you on!
Good luck on your first day of primary school! β€οΈπŸŽ’πŸ“š
With lots of love,
The SB Nursery Team πŸ’›

Upper Preschool rushcart building ❀️

As we get ready for the upcoming celebration of the Sowerby Bridge Rushbearing Festival, we have continued to develop our learning all about our local area! 🌿
This week, we focused our learning on the Rushcart and explored lots of different ways to learn about this wonderful local tradition within our Nursery library.
We watched videos about the Rushcart Festival, looked closely at photographs of the Rushcart, and shared our ideas and observations. We then got creative by drawing our very own Rushcart designs before using wooden blocks to build our own Rushcart! 🧱🌿
Of course, no Rushcart would be complete without a lady sitting proudly on top β€” and in our case, that was Amy! πŸ‘‘
We also had three strong friends at the front ready to pull the Rushcart along! πŸ’ͺ🏼
We have loved combining our local knowledge, creativity, imagination and teamwork while learning more about the wonderful traditions right here in Sowerby Bridge. ❀️🌿 Sowerby Bridge Rushbearing Festival

πŸ˜οΈπŸ—ΊοΈ Our Very Own Sowerby Bridge! πŸ—ΊοΈπŸ˜οΈ

This afternoon, our Upper Preschool children had a plan β€” and what a fantastic plan it was! 🌟

Working together, the children decided to recreate our own large-scale model of Sowerby Bridge, thinking carefully about the places that are important to us and how they fit together.

Our model included:

🏫 Nursery

🌲 The Wonder Woods

πŸ›’ Tesco

πŸš‚ The train station

🚀 The canal

🏠 Houses

πŸ›£οΈ Roads

The children also wrote their own signs to label each location, giving them the opportunity to use their mark-making and early writing skills for a meaningful purpose. βœοΈπŸ“

As the children built and arranged their model, they were developing their understanding of position, space and place, while using lots of mathematical language along the way.

We heard questions such as, β€œIs The Wonder Woods behind or in front of nursery?” as the children compared locations and thought carefully about where everything should go.

This activity encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, communication, early writing and mathematical thinking, while giving the children a meaningful connection to the community around them. ❀️

It was wonderful to see their ideas come together to create their very own representation of Sowerby Bridge! 🏘️✨

🌿✨ Celebrating a wonderful Sowerby Bridge tradition! ✨🌿
This week, as part of our learning around the upcoming Sowerby Bridge Rushbearing, our incredible little learners have been busy discovering more about this very special local tradition. πŸ’š
Inspired by the Rushbearing celebrations, the children worked together to create their very own mini rushcart, using sticks, leaves and other natural treasures they collected from our very own Wonder Woods. πŸƒπŸͺ΅πŸŒΏ
There was so much wonderful learning along the way β€” exploring our local community and its traditions, working together, sharing ideas, getting creative and discovering all the amazing things we can make using the natural world around us. πŸ₯°
We love giving our children opportunities to learn about and feel connected to the community they are growing up in, and what better way than bringing a little piece of this fantastic Sowerby Bridge tradition into SB Nursery! ❀️
We can’t wait to see the real Rushbearing celebrations! πŸŽ‰πŸŒΏ

πŸŽ“ SBNursery Graduation 2026 – Celebrated at Wonder Woods! πŸŒ³πŸ’š

Last Saturday morning, we held a very special SB-style graduation in our very own beautiful Wonder Woods, as we celebrated the achievements of our incredible little learners and said an emotional goodbye to some very special children and families. πŸŽ“πŸŒΏ

What an absolutely wonderful morning it was! πŸ’š

And now we’re so excited to share that the photographs are back from Adam! πŸ“Έβœ¨ He captured the morning so beautifully, and we absolutely love looking back at all those precious smiles, special moments and wonderful memories. We couldn’t wait to share some of them with you!

A HUGE thank you to all of our wonderful children and families who joined us to celebrate this very special milestone. We are incredibly proud of every single one of our little graduates and everything they have achieved during their time with us.

A very special thank you to our entire SB team. Every member of our team has played such an important part in caring for, nurturing, supporting and educating these incredible little learners throughout their time with us. You have helped them learn, grow, develop confidence and become the amazing little people we celebrated on Saturday. Your care, dedication and love for what you do are what make SBNursery the special place it is. This celebration was about your hard work too. πŸ’š

A massive thank you especially to Hannah and Amy for all the hard work, planning and organisation that went into making our graduation morning so special. πŸŒΏπŸŽ“

And thank you to the rest of our wonderful SB team who helped with all the preparations, setting up Wonder Woods, creating our beautiful graduation area, helping throughout the morning and making sure everything came together perfectly. It really was a team effort! πŸ’š

πŸ“Έ A HUGE thank you to our fantastic photographer Adam, Samantha’s partner, who very kindly gave his time to capture all these precious moments for us. The photographs are absolutely beautiful and something our SB families will be able to treasure for years to come. Thank you, Adam!

🐾 And a huge thank you to Lion Learners for the fantastic petting animal session. The children absolutely loved meeting the animals, and it made their graduation morning even more memorable!

It really does take a whole team to create memories that will last a lifetime. πŸ’š

To our children, families, SB team and everyone who helped make our Wonder Woods graduation possible – thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

πŸŽ“ Congratulations to all our amazing little graduates! πŸŽ“

Watching you learn, grow and flourish has been an absolute privilege. Saying goodbye is never easy, but we couldn’t be prouder of each and every one of you.

Now it’s time to spread your wings and begin your next big adventure. 🌈✨

Once an SB little learner, always part of the SB family. πŸ’š

🌿πŸ₯£ Mud Pie Making in the Wonder Woods! πŸ₯£πŸŒΏ
Our little explorers had a fantastic time making mud pies in the Wonder Woods using natural treasures they found along the way. πŸƒ From mixing and decorating to sharing their creations, the children enjoyed imaginative, hands-on play while developing creativity, communication, and fine motor skills.

A wonderful morning of outdoor learning and muddy fun! 🀎

🐻🌿 A Teddy Bear Picnic in the Woods!🌿🐻

Our little learners headed into the woodland for a very special Teddy Bear picnic… and what a surprise awaited us! πŸ‘€πŸ»

As we explored, we discovered a teddy bear waiting patiently for his lunch! Our little learners got straight to work, creating a delicious woodland feast using playdough, sticks and leaves. πŸƒπŸ₯—

Little hands squeezed, rolled, pressed and manipulated the playdough, developing those important physical and fine motor skills while creating their very own pretend food.

The woodland then became the perfect setting for imaginative play. We made yummy stick and leafy salads, poured cups of tea, shared our picnic and, of course, made sure Teddy had plenty to eat! β˜•πŸ»

Through this magical experience, our little learners were developing physical skills, creativity, communication, imagination and social interaction, all while exploring and connecting with the natural world around them.

A delicious picnic, wonderful woodland discoveries and lots of teddy bear fun! πŸ»πŸŒ³πŸƒ

🌳 Exploring the Woodland Hill🌳

Today, we watched one of our little learners confidently take on the woodland hill, showing us just how much their physical confidence and independence are developing.

Starting at the bottom of the hill, he carefully made his way upwards, taking his time to find his balance and position his feet securely. Step by step, he climbed higher, becoming increasingly confident in managing his own movements and judging the challenges ahead.

As he reached the large tree at the top, he paused before proudly making his way back down the hill. He carefully adjusted his movements as the terrain changed, demonstrating an emerging awareness of risk and how to keep himself safe while still enjoying the challenge.

This experience provided a wonderful opportunity to develop gross motor skills, balance, coordination, spatial awareness and physical confidence. Most importantly, he was able to take the lead in his own exploration, confidently assessing the environment and making decisions about how to move safely.

It was wonderful to see his determination, resilience and growing sense of independence as he successfully navigated the woodland hill from beginning to end. πŸŒΏπŸ’š

πŸͺΌπŸŒŠ Diving into an ocean of discovery! 🌊πŸͺΌ

Today our upper pre school children enjoyed exploring our jellyfish-themed sensory tray, inspired by the story Where Do Ocean Creatures Sleep at Night? Through hands-on play, they investigated different textures, discovered shells and sea creatures, and used their imaginations to bring the underwater world to life.

Sensory play encourages curiosity, develops language skills, and supports children's understanding of the world around themβ€”all while having lots of fun! πŸ’™
