Grandma’s Attic is a special activity we have created here at Triangle House — a treasure chest filled with everyday objects and treasures you might find around your own home.
Inside, the children might discover an old handbag, telephone, keys, purse, scarf, wooden spoon or something else they recognise. They can explore the objects, talk about them and decide for themselves what they could become.
And whilst it looks like simple play, there is so much learning taking place:
Maths – counting, sorting, matching and comparing objects.
Language – talking about what they have found, asking questions and learning new vocabulary.
Problem-solving – exploring how things work and thinking creatively about how they can be used.
Imagination – creating their own stories, role play and imaginary worlds.
It’s a lovely reminder that children don’t always need toys specifically designed to be educational in order to learn.
Sometimes, everyday objects and a little imagination can create the best learning experiences.
That’s what we love about Grandma’s Attic ❤️
