Be a part of our journey

Our Grass Roots Journey started back in the Summer of 2017, it took a few months to acquire the building and start the renovation work, making it our setting. We focused a lot of time and effort into making sure all our resources and equipment were repurposed and reused to show our families that learning doesn’t require expensive toys, just imagination. To find out more about us visit our website www.grassrootsdaynursery.com and please read our mission statement below which we believe really captures our vision and ethos.

‘We provide the highest quality of care and early years education possible for the children at Grass Roots, ensuring firm foundations upon which each child’s future can be built. We will ensure that all children develop a sense of belonging and security, cared for by staff who will listen and respond to them. We want to promote an environment which focuses on the development of the whole child, ensuring that when they start their next phase in life they do so with a positive self image, an enquiring mind, a real understanding of what is right and wrong and a confidence to excel in everything they do.’ Grass Roots Team

When you’re stocking up on treats this Halloween please remember that some sweets can be dangerous for little ones.

Lollipops, hard sweets and mini eggs in particular can pose a serious choking risk. They’re the perfect size to completely block a child’s airway. So please pick another treat.

Today at Wild Roots Forest School, we ignited a spark of curiosity and creativity as we delved into the fascinating world of hedgehogs and their remarkable autumn adaptations! Inspired by the heartwarming tale of Isaac the hedgehog, our young explorers embarked on a nature scavenger hunt to craft a cozy den, harnessing their innovative spirits to design a snug leaf haven and a sturdy teepee to shield him from the elements. With every carefully hammered nail, our little pioneers brought their own wooden hedgehogs to life, cultivating confidence, coordination, and a deeper connection with the natural world. Today's hands-on adventure was a testament to the power of imagination and the boundless potential that lies within each and every one of us! 🌳💚🦔

Open-ended setups like this allow children to take the lead in their learning, developing problem-solving skills and imaginative play at their own pace. 🦉

Today, we explored the fascinating world of shadows and how they are formed when light hits an object, leaving its shape darkened. We demonstrated this concept through play using flour to represent light. As we lifted different objects, the outlines beneath mimicked shadows. 🔦✨
