Be a part of our journey

Our Grass Roots Journey started back in the Summer of 2017, it took a few months to acquire the building and start the renovation work, making it our setting. We focused a lot of time and effort into making sure all our resources and equipment were repurposed and reused to show our families that learning doesn’t require expensive toys, just imagination. ‘We provide the highest quality of care and early years education possible for the children at Grass Roots, ensuring firm foundations upon which each child’s future can be built. We will ensure that all children develop a sense of belonging and security, cared for by staff who will listen and respond to them. We want to promote an environment which focuses on the development of the whole child, ensuring that when they start their next phase in life they do so with a positive self image, an enquiring mind, a real understanding of what is right and wrong and a confidence to excel in everything they do.’ Grass Roots Team

Busy fingers and big learning today! 🧵✨

Thread and bead activities might look like simple fun, but they offer a fantastic workout for early development. By carefully pushing lace through small wooden beads and touching each item one by one to count, our little learners are building critical early skills:

Key Learning Outcomes:

Fine Motor Control & Pincer Grasp: Threading sharpens hand-eye coordination and strengthens the small hand muscles essential for future mark-making and writing.

One-to-One Correspondence: Pointing directly to each bead while counting helps bridge the gap between reciting numbers and understanding that each object represents a distinct value.

Concentration & Problem Solving: Guiding the cord through narrow holes requires patience, focus, and hand stability.

Language & Classification: Great opportunities to name colors, identify different fruits and animals, and practice positional language!

Wonderful focus and brilliant counting skills on display today! 🌟

Mark-making on foil is such a fantastic sensory invitation. Here’s why we love it:

🩷Unique Resistance & Glide: Alcohol or paint markers flow effortlessly across the slick surface.

💚Reflective Visuals: Children get to see their marks mirror back at them alongside their own reflections.

💛Auditory Feedback: The gentle crinkles add an engaging sound element as they draw.

🩵Low-Pressure Creativity: It shifts the focus entirely to the process rather than the end product.

Look at this incredible structure! 🪵✨

Our little builders worked as a fantastic team today, showing so much perseverance to construct this impressive tower!

Beyond just having fun, construction play like this helps our children develop:

Teamwork & Communication: Sharing ideas, planning together, and taking turns.

Problem-Solving & Resilience: Testing balance, handling trial and error, and refusing to give up when things wobble!

Spatial Awareness & Math Skills: Exploring shapes, sizes, weight, and balance in a hands-on way.

Supporting a child with additional needs on their toilet training journey?

Toilet training can feel overwhelming, especially when your child needs extra support. The good news is that nearly all children can learn to be clean and dry. It may take longer and look different for every child, but it's an important life skill that can make a big difference to their independence and confidence.

That's why ERIC has created a helpful advice sheet packed with practical guidance for parents and carers, including:

🔵 Where to start
🔵 Spotting and managing constipation
🔵 Keeping the bladder healthy
🔵 Toilet training older children
🔵 Considering what extra support may help
🔵 Practical tips to help you get started with toilet training

Today, we had an exciting adventure as we explored the mud and looked for bugs! Armed with our magnifying glasses, we dug through the squishy mud to uncover the hidden insects lurking beneath the surface. We discovered ants scurrying around 🐜, flies buzzing past🪰, and even spotted a grasshopper jumping in the mud🦗. The highlight of our day was finding a beautiful butterfly 🦋, bursting with vibrant colors, fluttering gracefully nearby. It was such a thrilling experience to see and learn about the amazing creatures that live all around us!

We went exploring in the orchard today and found a tiny safari right in the grass! The children were thrilled to spot these striking black-and-yellow caterpillars and enjoyed taking a closer look with their magnifying glasses. 🐛🔍

Did you know they are Cinnabar moth caterpillars? They are hard to miss with those colors! 🧡🖤 They are busy munching on their favorite snack, Ragwort.

It’s amazing what you can find when you take a closer look. Have you found any interesting bugs in your garden lately?
