Minster Performing Arts 2025-2026

2025-2026 is now officially over and the holidays have begun. It has been a year of hard work, success and great memories. To all those who have been a part of the performing arts faculty - you have put in hours of rehearsals, lessons and performances. You have shown your creativity, bounced back after set-backs, supported each other, aimed high and followed your dreams. Take time to look back on the year to celebrate your highlights and enjoy your summer. The photos on social media are just a snapshot of all the brilliant things you have done…there is so much not shown.

All the music & drama staff are looking forward to everything there is to come in the new academic year. Have a wonderful holiday!

(P.S - we’re not actually stopping! Performers in the Southwell Music Festival, keep an eye on your emails next week, there are rehearsals and performance details to be arranged!! Mrs WW)

The MPAs 2026, July 2026

Our annual Minster Performjng Arts Awards (The MPAs) evening was a fitting way to end a fantastic year! Celebrating almost 200 of our musicians, actors, dancers, tech crew and performing arts students there were awards for commitment, talent, memorable performances and much more, for students from Years 7-13. We were also treated to some exceptional performances, reminding us of the incredible talent from so many of our students.

We loved hearing from former students Betsey, Alex & Li Li, following their journeys in the arts after leaving Minster. We’re proud of you all.

We will miss all our students leaving us enormously. Special mention to our Lifetime Contribution to Music awards for those Year 13 leavers who have been with us since the Juniors. Keep in touch and follow your dreams.

Our thanks to ALL Minster students who have been involved with music & drama this year - you are what makes our Performing Arts faculty magical!

Until next year…

Shakespeare in Short, July 2026

Every two years, the drama department put on a ‘Shakespeare in Short’ production which consists of three Shakespeare shows in the space of an hour and a half - this year the theme being ‘fate’. We are so proud of our wonderful cast of Year 7 & 8 for their incredible portrayal of the shows ‘Julius Caesar’, ‘The Tempest’ and ‘Romeo and Juliet’.

Both nights were a great hit with the audience and a big thank you to Mr Brown and Mr Hubery for putting in so much hard work and helping to make these nights so successful!

National School Theatre Awards - Winners 2026

Best Musical 2026: Sweeney Todd
Best Actress in a Musical 2026: Lydia for her role as Mrs Lovett

Wow! What a wonderful evening performing at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in the West End, London. To top it off we won TWO National School Theatre awards for Best Musical 2026 and Best Actress in a Musical. With nominations across over 130 schools, this event brings together some of the very best performing arts departments in the country from the state, independent and specialist performing arts sectors. And we won!

We are extremely proud of all our students who performed in the show and to the outstanding pit band who, whilst not able to perform with us tonight, are equally deserving of recognition.

Tonight was a joyous celebration of the performing arts and we were privileged to be acknowledged with these awards amongst so many other talented schools, students and colleagues. The awards were presented by inspirational leading industry professionals who continued to stress the importance of the arts. We are hugely grateful to National School Theatre Awards for providing this platform and opportunity.

Our sincere congratulations to all the schools who performed and won awards. We are unbelievably proud of Minster students, staff and tonight’s incredible achievement.

We are looking forward to our Year 10 concert next week! Thursday 18th June, 6:30pm.
