🎹 I M P R O V I S I N G 🎹

Fostering creativity, unlocks a student’s authentic musical voice, and deepens their relationship with the piano. It allows the student the freedom to explore and discover what is actually possible, without the fear of making mistakes, and it develops immense musical confidence, and listening skills.

In this lesson, I presented E with 2 patterns from a piece in Piano Safari, then asked her to create her own pattern. I was blown away with her rhythmic choices! Can you guess which pattern is hers?

🎹 T E C H N I Q U E 🎹

Learning to play the piano, isn’t just about playing the notes. It’s so much more! There are many musical concepts, pianistic, and technical skills a student must learn to master.

I am immensely proud of E, and how determined she has been to make such good progress playing her piece with a beautiful legato (smooth) articulation.

Producing a legato articulation requires students to create a connected sound between each of the notes played.

Well done, E for a beautiful performance of this piece. I’m so proud of your recent progress, in particular. 🥰 I am excited to see where your musical journey leads you! 🤩

A continues to impress me with her reading skills! 🥰 She is learning to eye track the music and it won’t be long before she starts to read some of the notes on the stave.

Learning to read music is very complex and takes time therefore, students in my lessons learn to read the notes gradually so that they feel secure and confident as they progress.

A is also able to play the rhythms she has learnt confidently as well as feel the pulse and play along with the teacher accompaniment too. Just fabulous! Check out that little smile at the end! Well done, A 👏

🎶 This is a great little piece called ‘In the Dark’ from the first of Victoria Proudler’s series of books called ‘Piano Grades Are Go’.

A is really developing fluency in this piece now. She is such a delight to teach and practises regularly. There is always an improvement each week, no matter how small. Each achievement is a step towards completion. Well done, A!
