Amazing work Portsmouth Creates 🔥
We are delighted to share that Portsmouth has been named on the longlist for UK City of Culture 2029.
Led by Portsmouth Creates, in partnership with Portsmouth City Council and shaped in collaboration with communities across the city, this bid reflects the ambition, creativity and shared pride that define Portsmouth.
Reaching this stage is an important moment. It recognises the strength of Portsmouth’s cultural voice and the power of culture to bring people together, create opportunity and help shape the city’s future.
This bid has always been about more than a title. It is about championing Portsmouth’s people and places, building on the city’s distinctive identity, and creating lasting impact through culture.
As Portsmouth celebrates Portsmouth100 this year, this milestone adds to the momentum already building across the city. We are proud to back this bid, and we hope the city will continue to back it too.
Follow along at We Are Pompey 2029 to be part of the journey and show your support for Portsmouth’s UK City of Culture 2029 bid.

Last week took a flight to the neighbouring Isle Of Wight schools where we got to share our knowledge on what it’s like to have a creative career and be an artist. 🕺🏼🧑🎨👩🏿🎤 🎭
It was amazing to inspire the young minds of the Isle Of Wight to develop their creative skills and ideas during the Creative Careers Week with CRYING OUT LOUD, IOWCEP Creative Island, Stories in the Dust and Sasha Biloshisky - Artist

As a community-led Hip-Hop dance and arts organisation in Portsmouth, Funk Format & Soul Rawkus CIC has championed the city’s creativity since 2001. Our work develops talent, builds confidence, and creates spaces where people can grow, connect, and express themselves through Street Dance, music and movement.
From dance classes to Portsmouth’s first free Hip-Hop arts festival, we’ve seen first-hand the creativity and resilience that make this city special. We believe Portsmouth’s creativity deserves to be seen, shared, and celebrated locally, nationally, and beyond.
That’s why we proudly support Portsmouth’s bid to become UK City of Culture 2029.
