Come and explore a wide spectrum of decorative glass and non ferrous metal working techniques without limit. We have lots of inspirational material to get you started if you are a beginner and heaps of stimulating ideas if you have some experience. Art glass in all brilliant colours types and textures is our core material. It is far more versatile than most people realise. Our group are constantly discovering more of its potential. From methods used to decorate the tombs of Pharaohs (still vibrant after 3,000 years plus) to the latest technology, you will learn how to design and make your own work of lasting beauty. Social distancing will be observed and slots will need to be pre booked. A minimum of two hours is suggested. If you stay for more than four hours you may bring your own sandwich. Off road car parking is free. The cost is £5 per hour of any part of an hour. and includes tea and biscuits. Did I mention the fun? Being part of this enthusiastic group is guaranteed to please. Belated Happy New Year everyone! As some of you are aware, Ruth has been in hospital. She is recovering but is awaiting test results and is therefore unable to say when the classes will restart. What we do know is that the classes will be in Southport, probably on Wednesday afternoons, and we may be able to offer a Wednesday evening group too. For those of you who have enquired it would be helpful if you could let us know if you are more interested in afternoon or evening sessions. We hope to be able to make some clear decisions about the classes in the near future. Thank you for the interest you have shown.

Margaret has made a mosaic for the new garden room at the specialist care home where she volunteers her time. This mosaic is large - over 1 metre wide - and uses lots of lovely bright colours to catch the eye. It also has a strong semi-abstract landscape design with lots of interesting visual texture. It looks great on the wall of the new garden room, doesn't it?

Margaret has been working at home on her special commission. Here it is finished and grouted. The slate-coloured background tesserae show off the pale greens and pinks beautifully. Margaret has cleverly used a circular direction (or andamento) for her inner design to complement the nestling flowers and foliage. It's a really harmonious piece - well done Margaret!

Although we are not yet running classes, we are still making mosaics at home. Margaret has been working on made a special commission for a 10 year wedding anniversary. The couple are Scottish and Irish so Margaret has used the emblems of Scottish thistles and Irish shamrocks designed around a classic Celtic family knot.

Jacky has finished her stool at home. It looks really effective with its cheeky central cockatoo in white, pale pink and green iridescent glass. The pale blue sky background has been done in a classical "brick" design (opus tessellatum) which gives the mosaic a feeling of calmness and really sets off the bright orange fruits and flowers jostling among the exotic large-leafed foliage. Well done Jacky. A beautiful mosaic!

Jacky has been busy at home, upcycling an old stool. She says: 'It was destined for the skip but was of sentimental value as Mick's dad made it about 60 years ago. All the kids used to use it to get the sweets out of the kitchen cupboard at their nan's.' Jacky has been inspired by a silk scarf by Edith Rewa, an Australian illustrator and textile designer .'
