Happy Bank Holiday! ☀️🌈 Since I have so many new faces following along, I thought I’d share a little bit about the person behind RP Tuition.
I’ve been tutoring for three years now and I’ve never looked back. It is such an honour to be welcomed into your homes and trusted to teach your children in creative, hands-on ways. Whether it’s face-to-face sessions here in Southport or our 1-1 and group lessons online, I love every minute of it! 💻📝
This year has been especially exciting, as my days range from supporting Year 1 learners all the way up to Year 8. I absolutely love the variety that brings to my week!
When I’m not teaching...
On days like today, you’ll most likely find me:
🐾 Heading out on a new adventure or a long walk with my husband and my dog, Forest.
🌈 Wearing the brightest rainbow clothes I can find—you’ll never catch me in black!
📖 Curled up with a good book, pottering in the garden, or enjoying the fresh air.
Thank you for being part of this journey with me. I hope you’re all having a wonderful, colourful Bank Holiday!

Kids being expected to sit still in school. In fact this is what I want to be doing if I'm sat in a training meeting for more than an hour...maybe less depending on the content 😂

Writing can sometimes feel like a slog, and coming up with unique ideas is often the biggest hurdle for young writers. 📝✨
Today, we used story idea cards to help this learner build their very own fairytale-themed narrative. By using our Little Red Riding Hood plan as a model, he was able to selectively choose and refine his ideas to create a brilliant, structured plan.
Our focus at this stage is keeping things simple: clear writing, great ideas, and consistent full stops. We’ll be refining and expanding on this over the next few lessons, and I can’t wait to see the final piece!

A few weeks ago, this learner was really struggling to double 1-digit numbers. Seeing her tackle these much bigger numbers today made me feel so emotional and proud!
Our Doubling Bingo has become a firm favorite, and it’s clearly working wonders for her confidence and mental maths. It just goes to show how much progress can be made with a bit of practice and the right hands-on tools. 🎰🔢

Time bingo for this KS1 learner was a huge success. But I might say that as he let me win! 😂

This game was all about speed and building up that confidence to really check both the hour and the minute hand! ⏰

Online learning doesn't mean moving away from hands-on learning! 💻✂️

This week, our Year 3 maths groups took a break from the screen to work with their own cut-out 2D shapes.

Their mission: to physically investigate symmetry by folding the shapes themselves.

There's no substitute for actually holding the shape to discover those fold lines!

Moving on from fractions and decimals, this pair of Year 4 learners have dived into short division (or the "bus stop" method!) this week. 🚌🔢

We began with some worded problems, which will become worded short division questions this week. This eased them into the lesson and got their brains engaged.

While their confidence was high, we slowed things down to really investigate the "why" behind the method—especially when it comes to remainders. By using physical counters and base-ten blocks, we could see exactly what happens to those leftover amounts and how they are regrouped.

Beyond primary support, RP Tuition offers tailored KS3 sessions designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and true confidence. 🎓✨
This week, we took a deep dive into expanding and factorising algebraic expressions. While algebra can often feel "scary" at the start of secondary school, 1-on-1 support allows us to slow down and prove that the logic is there.
It was wonderful to see this Year 7 student take total control of their learning—working independently and clearly showing every step of their working out. Moving from "I can't do this" to "I've got this" is what it's all about!
