[08/31/21] Hi everyone, summer holidays are almost over and we return to training at Birkdale High School on Monday 6th September. Great opportunity to start something new, beginners class 7-8pm, first lesson free.
Hi Everyone, I know it has been a while but we are able to return to the school from next Monday the 24th May 7-8 in the dining room as usual. However, due to the controls, you have to pre-book your space so if you could PM me or contact me to let me know you are attending I will book you in. We will still be socially distanced so no pairs work, it will all be solo work for the time being.
Thank you Mike
[02/08/21] Something a bit different in tonight’s session looking at some defensive blocks from old style boxing and then developed that to incorporate it alongside the pad Kata we learned recently, keeping us thinking and developing our technique- keep kicking!

Hi everyone, update following an exchange with the school on Friday, whilst the status for our area continues to be classed as T3 we will not be able to train at the school. As soon as we are downgraded to T2 as long as the rules remain unchanged we can return to training at the school. I do not want to leave it as we did during full lock down so I would like to offer training on line starting next Sunday the 25th October. Can you confirm your place and I will send you the invite £4 per person paid in advance 1pm to 2.30pm.
This is a great watch, 20 minutes well spent.
Patrick McCarthy is the world’s leading Karate historian and researcher.
For the past 20 years, I’ve published many videos, blogs and interviews about McCarthy Sensei, his historical translations, great books, and remarkably insightful Kata-applications. His work has shaped my understanding of Karate in general and Kata applications specifically.
Nothing exemplifies this better than his unique Koryu Uchinadi drills that I’ve had the honor of personally learning and teaching since he first visited my dojo in the 1990s. No one has taught me more, and few masters know or have contributed more than has he. It is my sincere wish that everyone realise just how much I have gained from this unique leader and his continued mentorship.
I most enthusiastically encourage all my followers to not only recognise his important contributions, but to also understand how it has helped shape and influenced the thoughts of an entire generation of learners.
Ah have to wait until Jan 2021 - in the meantime you can keep kicking on Monday nights at Birkdale high!
The dojo is back open. Cobra Kai S3 arrives 8 January (and S4 is also gearing up to join the gang).

Hi everyone, sorry for the radio silence in terms of starting back. Both are venues have been unavailable up until now, I am just waiting confirmation that we can start back at Birkdale from next Monday the 14th September. If this is confirmed I will provide an update in time for next Monday and of course we will practice social distancing, there will be no contact but I will look to incorporate some pad drills you can practice on your own, individual drills and of course kata.
Of course we would welcome any new starters looking for something new classes will be at Birkdale high school, 6-7 all are welcome 5 and upwards.
Any questions please pm me.
this made me laugh - god job Iain Abernethy 👍👍👍👍
Missing your friends from the dojo? Have a virtual street fight! Yesterday I asked everyone to send a video of them staggering backward and then throwing a technique towards the camera. A quick bit of editing later and we had this :-) There’s loads of good sound effects freely available. I also had to put myself in a couple of times to get the continuity between techniques. Not hard to do though and the result entertained us!
Thanks to John G for pointing out the link but given the current situation this is a great outline for training on your own
