We are proud of our 2026 GCSE cohort who have achieved an outstanding set of GCSE results this year. The pupils’ results are amongst the School’s best ever GCSE results with 55% of all grades at 9-8 and 74% of all grades at 9-7. A remarkable 29% of all GCSE examinations received the top grade – grade 9. This is a superb performance by the pupils at WHSB.

Congratulations to the pupils on such fantastic GCSE results; they have shown tremendous drive and ambition, and their hard work has paid off. We would also like to thank the staff for their excellent teaching and the support they have provided for our pupils in preparation for the examinations. Well done to all!

As the School celebrates another year of exceptional A Level results, we congratulate our students on their outstanding results; half of all entries were awarded the highest grades of A* or A.

An outstanding 19% of all A Levels were awarded the top grade of A*, while an impressive 50% of grades achieved were A* or A. Furthermore, 76% of all grades were awarded at A*, A or B.

The superb results mean that the overwhelming majority of students will now progress to courses at some of the country's most prestigious Russell Group universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, as well as degree apprenticeship programmes with major national and international organisations.

The students will be pursuing a wide range of subjects, including Medicine, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Music and Law.

There were many outstanding individual achievements. Among them were Varun, Jess, Joseph, Daniel, and Eleanor who achieved an exceptional four A* grades. Alongside these remarkable successes, many more students are celebrating having achieved the grades required to secure places at their first-choice universities.

These superb results reflect the students’ hard work, determination and commitment throughout their studies. We would also like to thank and congratulate our staff for providing exceptional teaching, support and guidance to our students.

We wish all our students every success as they take the next steps in their education, training, and future careers.

Well done to the CCF Cadets in our Royal Navy Section who represented the School superbly at Southend’s Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27 June. We are proud of the cadets, who conducted themselves with dignity, showing great respect as they joined Southend’s Mayor Cllr Tony Cox, Reverend Frank Smith, Mr Keith Evans, Chairman of Leigh Branch Royal British Legion, and guests to honour those members of the military in active-duty. The open air service took place at Victoria Circus, Southend and was held to recognise the service, commitment, and sacrifices of the men and women who serve in the armed forces.

We congratulate the cadets on their resilience in joining those who gathered in the extreme heat for this event, and thank Lt Hadley and SSI Hague for preparing the cadets for the event, and for accompanying them on the day.

Following their success in the regional finals of the UK Youth Rocketry Challenge (UKROC) back in April, we are now incredibly proud to celebrate our Lower Sixth Rocketry Team's achievement in the National Final, held on 25 June at the Buckminster Gliding Club in Leicestershire.

The UKROC National Final is the culmination of a months-long STEM competition that saw over 1,600 schoolchildren participate in nine regional events held across the UK. Regional finalists then compete to secure a spot at the International Final at this year's Farnborough International Airshow in July.

In the competition, teams were required to build a rocket able to fly to exactly 750ft in the air, while spending between 36 and 39 seconds from launch to touchdown. The rocket must also carry a fragile payload—in this case, a single raw egg—with any cracks appearing in the shell during flight resulting in instant disqualification. Our students developed their rocket design across the year, using computer software and physical testing methods to assess the vehicles' stability.

On the day, battling unpredictable weather, WHSB’s Team Champagne SuperNova scored impressively on their initial flight and subsequently achieved full marks during their presentation to a panel of aerospace experts. Their flawless presentation vaulted them into the final "fly-off" round of the competition. After adapting their rocket on the spot with a superbly calculated engineering adjustment, they secured second place nationally, resulting in the presentation of a certificate and trophy, £200 for future school projects, and an exclusive visit to an Airbus facility.

We congratulate both of our rocketry teams for their achievements in this prestigious national competition. We are immensely proud of WHSB's Team SuperNova, our national runners-up: Edward, Logan, Nova, Liza, Sam, and Riley. This is an outstanding feat, and one of which our School community is exceptionally delighted. With thanks to Mr Dalby, Head of Physics, for facilitating the School's entry into the competition and for his dedication to preparing our teams for success. Our thanks also to Mr Hudson for accompanying and supporting the pupils on the day.
