This arrived after a first session last week.

A first session is such a significant moment for a child. New place, new person, new expectations. It takes courage to walk in.

And when they come out, it speaks volumes when they say they loved their first session!

Our tutors know that a child who feels good about being somewhere, learns better in that place.

Your child uses inference every single day, they just don't know it yet. 💛

When they walk past someone on the street and form an instant impression. When they watch a film and predict what happens next. When they sense that a friend is upset before a word has been spoken.

Inference is already there. The job is to make it conscious, and then transferable to the page.

Could your child work out who each bag belongs to?

This is exactly the kind of thinking we develop at By The Bay, the ability to read not just what is written, but what is meant. That skill is tested in every comprehension paper from KS2 through to GCSE, and it is one of the most significant differences between a child who finds reading straightforward and one who finds it a struggle.

The good news is that inference can be taught, practised and built, with the right support and the right approach.

Since starting Year 7, R hadn't scored higher than 62% in his Maths tests, not once!
But when his end of year results came in July he had received 96% - second highest in his class!

In a short amount of time, with the right support, in a calm space, where our tutor finally had the time to sit with him and help it make sense.

This is what happens when a child’s needs are met and supported properly.
We are so proud of R. And so grateful to the family who took the time to let us know. Messages like this are the reason we do what we do.

We have a very small number of 11+ spaces remaining for this term, and once they are gone, we will not have availability again until after October half term.

If your child is in Year 5 and their 11+ journey is underway, now is the last moment to get support in place before the term is fully under way and the weeks start disappearing.

The children who feel most prepared at the 11+ are almost always the ones who had consistent, calm, expert support from the very start of Year 5 (Or Year 4 even!), not the ones who started in a panic in the spring.

That head start is still available, but only just.

Seeing our Year 6 children reach this moment every year reminds us exactly why we love what we do. And it reminds us how much those months of calm, consistent preparation matter.

Over a year of weekly sessions, this student has learned a lot, made new friends and enjoyed every single one.

To every child sitting their 11+ at the end of next week, this one is for you. 💛

You have worked so hard to get to this point. Many early mornings, practice papers, late nights, extra homework, questions that felt impossible at times and moments you wanted to give up (but didn't!).

You have already done the hardest bit. So when you walk into that exam room next week, it won’t be new. You've already practised and learnt everything you need.

💛 Read each question carefully.
💛 Take your time.
💛 If something feels tricky, move on and come back.

Trust the preparation you have put in.

And when it's over (whatever the result) know this: you were brave enough to try. That matters more than 𝘢𝘯𝘺 score on any paper.

We are so proud of every single one of you. One week left for final preparations and then go and show them what you can do.

To the parents, take a breath too. You have supported, encouraged and believed in your child every step of the way. Next week is their moment, but you made it possible, and you’ve worked hard too!

Whatever happens next, the journey has already shaped them in ways that will last far longer than any exam result.

We are nearly full for this term, and we wanted to make sure the right families know about the spaces we still have before they go.

If you have been thinking about getting support in place for your child and haven't quite got there yet, now is your chance.

The first week back is here and for a lot of families, that brings a mix of feelings.
