Today Year 7 took part in a Guinness World Record attempt for the most people all reading at the same time, run in conjunction with the National Literacy Trust.

During the event, students watched a webinar with the author Frank Cottrell-Boyce and then read for 10 minutes as our part in the record breaking attempt. What an excellent opportunity for us to promote reading for pleasure, well done Year 7!

Yesterday, we were thrilled to welcome Richard Murrell, who recently retired from the BBC after an incredible 44-year career in broadcasting.

Richard's career began with his fascination for radio, including time at Hospital Radio, before he joined the BBC and worked his way through radio and television production to become a senior director at BBC News. During his career, Richard directed some of the BBC's most prestigious programmes, including BBC World News, Breakfast with Frost and Sunday Politics, as well as live broadcasts from around the world.

Richard gave our Year 10 students a fantastic insight into his career and, importantly, shared how his journey started from humble beginnings. His story demonstrated that careers aren't always linear, and that hard work, curiosity and taking opportunities can open doors you never expected.

The students particularly enjoyed getting an insight into the world behind the camera — and there was even the opportunity for one of them to have a go on the autocue!

We are incredibly grateful to Richard for giving up his time to inspire our students and share his experiences.

A huge thank you also to Futures For All for facilitating this fantastic opportunity and helping to bring inspirational industry speakers into our school.

Year 8's have been working on their tiger eyes the last few weeks in art. The students have worked really hard at sketching the eye to the correct proportions and using the oil pastels to create the fur texture! Really fantastic art across the year group!

Well done, Miss Dark, who is our staff Word of the Week winner for last week! She awarded a fabulous 71 points across the week for the correct use of ACKNOWLEDGE. Here she is, thrilled with her trophy and chocolate bar. Who will be victorious with this week's word, SIMPLIFY? Stay tuned to find out!

We will be acknowledging World Mental Health Day on Friday at breaktime, where they will be activities to do and a chance to speak to our Youth Health Ambassadors. There are assemblies on the topic all this week.

Our new Student Leadership Anti Bullying Ambassadors and House captains got together to do some team building exercises and share ideas for future events. Team dragon won the challenge! We look forward to increasing out members once the next round of applications are in!
