🌻Thank-you to everyone for your kind messages of support and to all those who have reached out to us following our recent statement.

Steps Ahead would like to be clear that we had every intention of continuing our services for the local community from The Hive Nature School, Southend.

Over the past two years, Steps Ahead Life CIC has diligently crafted a comprehensive service focused on education, environment, creativity and wellbeing tailored to engage and support the community.

We know there is a need for our services, so we are very disappointed not to be able to carry on with our provision from this base.

🌻We are interested to hear from anyone who can support our dedicated team seek a new base.

Steps Ahead combines over 40 years’ experience working within education, a knowledge of how creativity inspires, with a passion to nurture and protect the environment.

We pride ourselves on delivering high quality, fun, engaging and enriching experiences for children and adults regardless of age, ability, or life experience.

🌪️ Join us this summer for a fantastic outdoor performance project immersed in Shakespeare’s The Tempest!

💖 We’re excited to join forces with Platform Theatre Arts CIC to bring you Tempest - a FREE summer holiday project for ages 11-19 (up to 25 for SEN young people)

💪 Through the week you’ll build confidence, forge lasting connections, and hone essential life skills cultivating a supportive community where everyone has a voice and everyone belongs.

☀️ The project will take place over six days:
Fri 2 Aug 10am - 3pm
(break over the weekend)
Mon 5 Aug - Thu 8 Aug 10am – 3pm
Fri 9 Aug 10am – 6pm (performance times tbc)

Steps Ahead Life CIC - Announcement.

As of 31st October 2024, unfortunately Steps Ahead will no longer be delivering services from the Hive Nature School Southend.

This comes as very sad news to Steps Ahead and our dedicated team, as well as our loyal clients – and the local community as a whole.

Since November 2021, Steps Ahead Life CIC has diligently crafted a bespoke service through our key aims of Creativity, Wellbeing, Education and Environment for all ages and abilities.

Our efforts have yielded positive outcomes and a nature school that now looks vastly different from when we first arrived.

We are truly sorry to break this news to you all. We have thoroughly enjoyed meeting, engaging and delivering our services from this base to support the needs of the local community.

We want to say a great big THANK-YOU to each and every one of you who have participated in our programmes, attended our events, and contributed to the successful delivery of our services.

The support we have received by so many of you, as well as your positive feedback, has meant such a lot to the Steps Ahead team.

For twenty-five years Steps Ahead have delivered workshops, programmes, and events at a variety of venues. We strive to deliver fun, engaging, enriching experiences for children and adults of all abilities.

As our motto says .... 'creative journeys - colourful destinations’ ..so watch this space for the next chapter of our journey, where we hope we will meet again!

Until then, we intend to deliver our services as normal.

☀️ GOLDEN MOMENTS
🐇 We have been so encouraged to see so much wildlife in recent weeks.
From bouncing bunnies, to elegant butterflies and to the birds who frequent Lilypad Pond.

😊It is always a pleasure to see visitors’ faces light up at the sight of such beauty. Also the excitement of stumbling across evidence of unsighted creatures who leave behind clues.

🕰️It has been a busy few weeks at Steps Ahead. We have welcomed schools, celebrated birthdays and supported Hive Hire events. It is always a pleasure to engage with the local community through our services.

🦋But in all the business - the power of nature helps to remind us all - that it is also ok to slow down and give yourself permission to rest and believe. .life

We had a fantastic day at Steps Ahead at The Hive. The Children all loved it and left with new knowledge and an enthusiasm for nature and the world around us. Laura and Viv were super instructors. The programme was varied and well paced. It kept the children focused and engaged for our day. Thank-you. We will definitely be returning.

🌈It has been a busy time at Steps Ahead.

🔥 On Friday year 10 students from a local school completed their three week programme with us. We started the session around the fire creating nature inspired poetry and ended the day in the cool of purple trees branches discussing ways we can raise awareness in support of nature and the natural world.

🦖 👑 Saturday - we celebrated twins Gene and Freya’s 3rd Birthday with a Steps Ahead Step Outside party. The excitement was palpable as the children engaged in imaginative play activities themed on dinosaurs and princesses. It was good to see the adults enjoying the activities too!

☀️ The weekend gently culminated on Sunday in the evening sunlight with a Midsummers Eve retreat- Yoga Nidra and sound bath with Reki delivered by Kerry Conway.

A day at Steps Ahead - ‘Wild at the Hive’

☀️We started the day with a gentle relaxation in the morning sunlight.

🐿️A guided silent walk gave time to ‘notice’ the sounds, sights, smells of The Hive.

🐾With our noticing skills finely tuned - we became nature detectives- looking for evidence of wildlife.

🦔After discussions about our findings we brought wildlife to life in the form of our clay hedgehogs.

🪴It was then time to tend and care to the seeds and plants we had shown to the soil the week before.

🐦‍⬛After lunch together in the open air we spent the afternoon caring for the birds and recording our sightings.
