💭 All about feelings at Seaside Cubs 🧸🌈

I’ve been working on something really important for my little Seaside Cubs — emotions and emotional regulation. 🤍

So far, I’ve started putting together lots of little resources to help children recognise, talk about and explore their feelings:

🌈 An “I Am Feeling…” chart, where children can choose how they’re feeling
😊 An emotion fan keyring to help children identify different emotions
👾 Monster emotion spoons — these are still a work in progress, but I wanted to make them fun and child-friendly
🫧 Emotion shakers for sensory play and regulation
🧺 A sensory basket with different resources to help little ones regulate when their emotions feel a bit too big

And this is only the beginning! 🥰

My next project is to create a little cosy feelings corner in the setting, with teddies, books about feelings, sensory resources and a calm space where children can take some time when they need it. 🧸📚🤍

I haven’t started the corner just yet, but I wanted to share the progress so far because it’s something I’m really excited about creating.

I think helping children understand their feelings is such an important part of early childhood. They’re not expected to know how to manage big emotions all by themselves — we can help them learn to recognise them, name them and find ways to regulate. 🌈

EXCITING NEWS!!🐻🌊

My Ofsted application has officially been SUBMITTED!!! 🥹🫶🏼

Honestly, I can’t even explain how good it feels to finally type that. After all the courses, DBS checks, safeguarding, first aid, paperwork, emails, painting, planning and probably WAY too much overthinking 🤣… it’s finally in!

This has been such a big dream of mine and seeing Seaside Cubs Childcare actually starting to become real is honestly so exciting 🥹🤍

I know there’s still a process to go through and I’m not registered just yet, but this feels like such a HUGE step in the right direction! 🐻🌊

I’m so excited to hopefully open my doors and create the little home-from-home I’ve been picturing for so long 🥰🧸

Thank you to everyone who has followed along, supported me, asked about spaces, shared my posts and cheered me on — I appreciate it more than you know 🤍

🧸🌊 SEASIDE CUBS UPDATE! 🌊🧸

We’re getting closer and closer to opening our doors! 🥹💙

✨ DBS UPDATE ✨
My DBS application has been submitted and I’m currently on the final stage — the police search! 🤞🏼

Once my DBS certificate arrives, I can finally move on to the next big step and submit my Ofsted application! 🎉

🏡 THE PLAYROOM 🏡
I’m also busy getting the Seaside Cubs playroom ready! 🐻💙

I’m giving the room a little makeover — painting, organising and adding those cosy little touches to create a warm, welcoming and inviting space for all my little cubs to explore, play and feel at home. 🧸✨

There’s still lots to do, but it’s all starting to feel REAL! 😭💙

🐻🌊 Another little update from Seaside Cubs! 🌊🐚

I’ve been keeping myself very busy behind the scenes and have another milestone to tick off! 💙

I’ve now completed my Designated Safeguarding Lead training online ✅

Safeguarding is something I’m taking incredibly seriously as I prepare to become a childminder, and I’ve learnt so much throughout my training so far.

I’m also really excited to say that I’ve booked onto my Level 4 Safeguarding course with the council in October 📚

And there’s some even more exciting news… my tutor has told me she’s happy to pass me on my Level 3 Home-Based Childcare course! 🥹🎉

I still have a few final bits to complete, but knowing I’m so close to finishing makes me incredibly proud.

There seems to be a never-ending list of things to learn, complete, organise and prepare before Seaside Cubs opens, but I’m loving watching it all slowly come together.

One step closer to welcoming my first little cubs! 🐻💙🌊

A little recommendation for any fellow childminders (or anyone, really)! 😊

I recently booked a home safety visit with Essex County Fire and Rescue Service to make sure my setting is as safe as possible for the children and families who’ll be visiting.

They gave me some really helpful fire safety advice tailored to my home and even installed a few new smoke alarms completely free of charge! 🚒🏡

It was such a worthwhile visit, and I came away with some great tips and extra peace of mind.

If you haven’t already booked a home safety visit, I’d definitely recommend it. It’s a fantastic free service that’s well worth taking advantage of! ❤️

Sorry for the radio silence over the last few weeks! 💛

We’ve had the dreaded sickness bug in our house 🤒, but we’re finally back on track!

There’s been lots happening behind the scenes… I’m on the final unit of my childminding course (woop! 🙌), I’ve started my further safeguarding course, applied for my DBS (eeeek! 😍), and I’ve officially started my Ofsted application too!

I’ve also been busy getting the house ready for childminding. It’s still a work in progress—I need to paint, label everything, organise the resources, create the calm corner, creative area, and a few more little touches—but it’s all starting to come together, and I’m so excited to see it taking shape! 🧸🏡

Here are a few little sneak peeks of some of the areas so far… ✨
