The target gives no opinion and offers no praise.
It simply shows us what was there.

Clarity in the cut.
Honesty in the result.
Then back to practice.

Wednesday night at Tenshin Dojo.
Another evening spent working through the details.
Movement, Timing, Distance and Mindset.
Repetition isn't about simply doing the same thing over and over. Each time through gives us another opportunity to notice something, adjust it, and move a little more freely.

Different grades, different levels of experience, but everyone working along the same path.
No shortcuts. No rush.
We don't train to make something look perfect. We train until unnecessary movement begins to disappear.

Nothing added. Nothing forced.

Sensei Tomio Otani, born on this day.

Today, he would have been 87 years old.

Remembered with respect. His legacy continues through the art he left behind.

The old masters did not teach
to be followed.

They taught so that others
might find their own way.

They did not demand loyalty,
for loyalty freely given
needs no demand.

They did not collect rank,
title, obedience or debt.

Their reward was simpler:

to see the student grow,
perhaps even beyond them.

A true teacher does not own the path,
nor those who walk it.

They simply show the way
and ask for nothing in return.

New faces, strengthening and blending seamlessly into the culture and spirit we've worked so hard to build.

It's easy to notice the results; less easy to see the countless hours behind them. This year has been one of steady progress, quiet work, and a few long-held goals finally finding their place.

Still plenty ahead, but grateful for the journey and the people who've shared it.

Much unseen labour
Seeds planted through changing seasons
Now begin to bloom
