As a Community Interest Company, our work doesn’t stop at training sessions. We reinvest our proceeds directly back into our community - supporting safety initiatives, local charities, outreach programmes and projects that lift up the people who need it most.

Every class, workshop and partnership helps us create a ripple effect of resilience across the region. With your support, we can continue building a community where safety, confidence and connection are accessible to everyone.

Our mission is to give people the tools they need to navigate the world with confidence. That means teaching awareness, risk‑recognition and calm decision‑making under pressure - the skills that help you avoid danger long before it becomes a threat.

Whether it’s young people, lone workers, parents or frontline staff, we’re here to empower individuals with knowledge that protects them and strengthens the communities around them.

A personal safety demo from my students and shortened clipped, breakdown from our recent South Essex community Safety Summit where we highlighted an issue with the lack of psychology and simulation based training at community safety events that have a personal safety element. This create s a gap between perceived confidence and how you respond under stress. We highlighted this issue to the Mayor of Castlepoint and Maxine Sadza amongst other local leaders, organisations and charities who operate wirhin community safety.

There is a time to avoid. There is a time to escape. And, in the worst-case scenario, there may be a time to get physical.

By this stage, the young people at 9th Leigh Scouts had already learned the importance of awareness, personal security, avoidance, de-escalation and escaping wherever possible. This drill only applies to the moment when none of those options remain and they are facing an immediate threat.

In that situation, two things matter most:

Mindset: Be ferocious. Commit fully to protecting yourself and getting home safely.

Tactics: Be first. Take decisive action to create an opportunity to escape, rather than becoming trapped in a prolonged confrontation.

The palm strike was chosen because it is a simple, gross-motor movement that is easier to perform under stress than more complex techniques.

The objective is to create the opportunity to break contact, escape and get to safety. The Scouts very much enjoyed the drill where we put this togetether including running away.
