The beginning of the end 💔.

If you have a child in one of my groups at the moment or on my waiting list you will have already received a message from me this weekend.

It is with a heavy heart that I let you all know that the time has come for me to step away from tuition. This has been a difficult decision for me as I have found so much joy in the work that I do. Setting up this small business has been a career highlight for me and has allowed me to continue teaching at a time when being at home with my own children was my number one priority. I have enjoyed it so much that I really felt I would be providing tuition forever!

The time has come for me to accept my limitations and stop trying to balance two jobs (in addition to motherhood!) and to be there for my own children who need me in new ways now that they are school-aged.

For me teaching has always been something that comes from the heart, I am personally invested in the wellbeing and success of all of my students, which has made this situation all the more difficult for me. The thought of letting anyone down fills me with guilt and dread but I am so pleased to have been able to support so many local children (too many to count, but certainly a 3 figure number!).

Percentages!

They're a tricky thing to get the hang of! The Year 5 children wrote their own numberline with equivalent fractions and percentages. We have started to use this to answer percentage worded problems, and this week we will be moving on to using partitioning.

This will allow the children to work out almost any percentage... E.g. 65% of 40 can be calculated by finding 50%, 10% and 5% and adding them back together again.

If you've still got Christmas shopping to do, maybe your child can help you calculate the percentage discounts and work out whether you've got a bargain 😉.

This is something the Year 5 children have been working on. They used practical objects to write their own statements about probability.

Word games!

One of the best things you can do to encourage Verbal Reasoning success. Games such as Scrabble, Boggle, Sn**ch and crosswords are all great fun (and don't feel much like 'work' at all 😉).

Move a letter from the first word, to the second word, to make two new correctly spelt words.

The Year 4 children do this with tiles so that they can physically move the letters and try out different possibilities.

I've got spaces for Year 4 children! 😀
