This week was all about fruits, vegetables and all the colours of the rainbow! 🌈
🍌🍓🍋🥝🍍🍊🌽🥦🥕🧅🍆🍅🍇🍐🫐
The book was called ‘I can eat a rainbow’ and the children loved talking about their favourite fruits and vegetables and what dinners they have like toast dinners!
We also took an opportunity to look at lots of different fruits and vegetables, feeling them, smelling them and tasting them!
We also helped the children learn all about how to use a knife safely to cut up fruit and veg, both as an activity and for their snack.

Last week was all about online safety and staying safe with our bodies and private parts.
Our two books were pantosaurus and chicken clicking, both are books designed to explain those things for small children.
We did lots of activities and discussions around our bodies and pants about how to keep safe and why it is important to keep parts of our bodies to ourselves and that it’s okay to say no. This book is really good at explaining to small children and has a website with songs and activities to support.
Chicken clicking is a great book to explain the online world that children have more and more access to nowadays. It goes into detail about how not everyone is who they seem online.

We’re back tomorrow after a lovely half term week and a staff training inset day today.
Staff took part in training about safer sleep for children under 12 months following the new guidelines. Everyone also completed ‘Level 1 Baby Care’ which focussed on lots of aspects of caring for babies and toddlers such as hygiene, safe eating, safe sleep, developmental milestones and more!
This is all in preparation for our exciting new adventure in September where we open up an additional room to take babies from 3 months 🤩

We often talk about small children drowning. But any child can drown - even strong swimmers.
They may overestimate how strong a swimmer they are or underestimate risks in the sea or open water, like lakes, rivers and reservoirs.
Please talk to your older children about water safety:
💧Teach them to choose safe places to swim like public pools and beaches with lifeguards
💧Explain the risk of swimming in open water. Even on a very warm day, open water can be cold enough to cause cold water shock. This physical reaction makes it hard to control breathing or to swim, causing swimmers to panic.
💧Talk to them about what to do if this ever happens. And teach them how to float.

This last week we read the book ‘we’re going on a bear hunt’. Another favourite of ours!
We created lots of fun and exploratory trays for the children to explore, based on the book and everything that happens!
We turned story time into a fun and engaging experience where the children could join in and finish lines in the story, which they love to do!
This story is also a key part in the school transition project as it’s one of the ‘Southampton’s Agreed Songs, Rhymes, Key Texts and Key Skills – 2026’.

This week we’ve been learning all about ‘people who help us!’
Our outside area explored a variety of people who help us, from our emergency services like firemen, paramedics, police to our bin collectors and recycling centres and more!
The children enjoyed reading lots of different books about different professions and people who help us day to day.
We also had a visit from a familiar face who talked to the children about his mechanics career and how he helps to fix people’s cars 🚗.

This week the book was ZOG! A favourite here amongst the adults and children! So our theme was based around dragons and doctors!
The children had great fun exploring doctors role play equipment and treating each other in the ‘doctors surgery’ as well as fixing up some of the adults too 👨⚕️ 👩⚕️
