On Wednesday 20th May 2026, a group of talented children from our KS2 Singing Club had the honour of performing at the 804th Mayor Making Ceremony of the City of Southampton, held at the prestigious Southampton Guildhall.

The children represented our school with pride and enthusiasm, singing their hearts out in front of distinguished guests, councillors and members of the local community. Their beautiful performances of The Climb, Sing, Shallow and Mountain captivated the audience and helped make this historic civic occasion even more special.

Taking part in such an important event was a wonderful opportunity for our children to showcase their musical talents while experiencing an important part of Southampton's civic traditions. Throughout the ceremony, the children demonstrated exemplary behaviour, professionalism and commitment, making everyone at school incredibly proud.

The choir's performances received glowing praise from those who attended the ceremony. Councillor Amanda Barnes-Andrews, Cabinet Member for Children, said:

"A HUGE thank you again for your fantastic performances at the Mayor Making ceremony. I was SO impressed with the sound the choir made and the children were an absolute credit to you during a long ceremony!"

Another attendee shared:

"Thank you very much for your lovely performances at SCC Mayor Making Ceremony last week. You couldn't see us as we were sitting on the stage behind you but we all enjoyed it very much. Keep singing!"

Lisa from Southampton City Council also praised the children, saying:

"I just wanted to say thank you for organising the Choirs for Mayor Making. I have spoken to lots of people who attended the ceremony and all have said how fantastic the Choirs were and I agree. I think this was the best we've had for some years, and I know that we didn't give you much notice so to organise what you did was just brilliant. I hope the children enjoyed the occasion and thanks again."

We are incredibly proud of every child who took part. Their hard work, dedication and confidence shone through in every song and they were outstanding ambassadors for our school.

A huge thank you also goes to the families who supported the children in preparing for this special event. We look forward to many more opportunities for our talented singers to share their voices with the community.

Well done, KS2 Singing Club!

As part of our learning for , our Key Stage 2 children were privileged to welcome a local voluntary organisation into school for a truly inspiring and thought-provoking assembly.

The session aimed to deepen the children's understanding of what it means to be a refugee, helping them to explore the challenges, resilience and courage that many people demonstrate when forced to leave their homes and rebuild their lives elsewhere.

Through eye-opening statistics, meaningful discussions and informative insights into the work of the organisation, the children gained a greater appreciation of the support available to individuals and families seeking safety and a fresh start. The assembly encouraged children to reflect on the experiences of others and consider how circumstances beyond a person's control can dramatically change their lives.

A particularly powerful moment came when Parissa, a volunteer with the organisation, shared her own personal journey. Having left Iran and arrived in the UK during the Covid-19 pandemic, she spoke openly and honestly about the challenges she faced while rebuilding her life in a new country. She described learning a new language, making friends, adapting to a different culture and finding employment, whilst also coping with the loss of everything familiar that she had left behind.

Parissa's moving account brought the realities of displacement to life and helped our children to develop a deeper sense of empathy, compassion and understanding. Her courage, determination and positivity left a lasting impression on everyone who attended.

Her story is just one among millions and we are confident that our children left the assembly with a greater appreciation of the diverse experiences of people around the world, as well as a renewed understanding of the importance of kindness, inclusion and community.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Parissa and Katie for sharing their time, experiences and expertise with us. It was a memorable and impactful experience that perfectly reflected the values we strive to nurture in our school community.

A Fantastic Finish at the City Athletics Championships!
What a fantastic way to end another sporting year! Some of our Year 5 and 6 athletes took part in the City Athletics Championships and represented Bitterne Park Primary and Nursery School brilliantly from start to finish.

Competing across four different events throughout the day, every child showed determination, resilience and team spirit. Whether they were competing in their strongest event or stepping out of their comfort zone, they gave 100% effort and supported one another every step of the way. Their encouragement from the sidelines was just as impressive as their performances on the track and field!

A special mention must go to one of our teams, who achieved an incredible 4th place out of 20 schools — a fantastic achievement in such a competitive field.

An even bigger shout-out goes to Tilly, who was crowned the overall top girl across the entire competition. What an outstanding accomplishment and a well-deserved reward for all of her hard work and talent!

We are incredibly proud of every single child. Thank you to all of our athletes for being such fantastic ambassadors for the school — you truly finished the year on a high!
