Play area improvements are coming to Whitehouse Gardens play area in Millbrook!
As part of our goal to create cleaner, more attractive, and welcoming green and open spaces, we will be making improvements to Whitehouse Gardens play area in Millbrook.
The planned improvements include:
👉 Removal of existing play equipment and replacement with sustainable, informal timber play structures made with timber from trees that have been felled in Southampton and milled by the council.
👉 Removal of existing artificial surfacing and replacement with grass to improve biodiversity.
We recently completed improvement work to the adjoining St Nicholas Graveyard to let in more light and improve sightlines across the open space. This has also created the right conditions for us to manage the species-rich grassland as a wildflower meadow 🐝
To make a larger, more interesting inclusive space in this area, we will be linking Whitehouse Gardens play area with St Nicholas Graveyard by creating an opening in the fence.
These planned improvements are being funded through £25,000 of CIL (Community Infrastructure Levy) money and we aim to have the works complete before winter, subject to weather conditions.

Who has been to the new pump track over at Sullivan Road? 😀 🚴♂️Monty's Bike Hub
Southampton City Council is delighted to have had The Right Worshipful Lord Mayor of Southampton and young people from the Monty’s Bike Hub community officially open the Sullivan Road pump track today.
The pump track project was a community initiated idea that has been brought to life over the past couple of years through funding from the Council and the Veolia Environmental Trust. Pump tracks are a great way to get a fun and full body workout and we are looking forward to seeing the community put this one to good use!

There's still time to have your say!
We’re making an investment to play facilities in Weston. Tell us what activities you would like to see in a play area to help make it the great place we know it can be.
As mentioned in the consultation, unfortunately we need to remove the play area on Weston Shore and will be letting the area return to natural coastline. These artist impressions give an idea of what the area could look like once the improvements are complete.
Please complete our survey to make sure your views are captured. Facebook comments will not be included.
Survey closes 12 March. https://www.southampton.gov.uk/council-democracy/have-your-say/weston-play-consultation/
