Little Shipmates Crescent Little Shipmates @ The Crescent is open 51 weeks of the year, offering childcare all year round or term time only.

We offer a stimulating fun environment for children, across three rooms. Children can start with us from babies right up until they leave for school. We have spaces for children who qualify for two and three year funding, including 30 hour funding. 🖍️✨ Mark Making & Concentration with Charlotte! ✨🖍️

The children enjoyed a fun chalk mark-making activity, exploring lines and shapes while developing their concentration and fine motor skills.

The children practised using their pincer grasp and making marks with purpose and intent. It was lovely to see them becoming absorbed in the activity and focusing carefully on the marks they were creating.

Some children took their mark making even further, confidently creating circles, wiggly lines and even having a go at triangles!

🌱 Cress Head Fun! 🌱

Today our little ones had lots of fun making their very own cress heads!

The children started by getting creative and drawing funny faces on their pots. They then carefully filled them with cotton wool, added some water and gently sprinkled in the tiny cress seeds.

We talked about where would be the best place for our seeds to grow and decided that a lovely sunny spot would be just right!

This simple activity provided so many wonderful learning opportunities. The children were encouraged to develop their curiosity as they wondered what would happen to their seeds, while beginning to understand growth and how to care for living things.

Now comes the exciting part… watching and waiting to see our cress hair grow!

🌈🍂 Colour Hunt and Collage 🍂🌈

On Monday the children went outside on a colour hunt, searching for something to match each colour. They noticed how the leaves were all different colours and talked about how this happens as the seasons change into autumn.

The children loved running around, searching for the different colours and sharing what they had found with each other.

A small group then went inside to create a rainbow collage. Using a photograph of a rainbow as a reference, they worked through each colour one at a time, choosing leaves and other objects to add to their rainbow.

The children worked together, taking turns and talking about the different colours as they created their collage. It was lovely to see them sharing ideas and working cooperatively to create something together.

📚Time in the Local Community🌳

Anchor room have been busy on lots of outings recently, exploring Hythe, visiting the library and Meeple Play Cafe.

At the library they read 'Dear Zoo' and used the story spoons to support the story and identify the different animals within the book. They also read a book about a puppy, as on the way to the library they saw lots of people walking dogs which the children were very curious about!

At Meeple Village the children explored lots of role play opportunities where they role played working at shops, making ice cream, being hairdressers and postal workers, building on their imaginative play skills and communication.

On Friday, the children explored colours and textures through a bubble wrap painting activity.

The children were able to look at how the colours mixed, seeing what new colour it could make, whilst also looking at the shapes and the patterns the bubble wrap created on their paper.

A really fun way of mark making!

‼️ New Area‼️

Louise and Emma in our Deck Room have created a new maths area.

Whilst we incorporate mathematics in so many ways in all aspects of the room, EYFS and their learning, they wanted to strengthen the development by creating this area to encourage a fun way of looking at maths, including different reading materials!

We are looking forward to seeing how the children use this space and develop their learning skills.

🧸 Teddy Bear Picnic 🧸

On Wednesday we celebrated National Teddy Bear Day! We held our annual Teddy Bear Picnic in honour of this day and as always, what a brilliant event it was!
