After a very busy year of teaching AND tutoring, school is officially out and the holiday nails are on! 💅

It feels particularly strange this year as I’ve said goodbye to my classroom and, from September, I’ll be focusing fully on The Reading Doctor Southampton. ❤️

But first… summer!

If you’re passing this summer, there are lots of reasons to stop by. Our little free book cupboard is stocked and I’ve created a FREE Summer Story Hunt around the Reading Doctor garden. Can you find 10 book characters or stories hidden amongst the displays? 🔎📚

Did you know that some children can lose learning progress over the long break? A little regular reading, writing and maths practice can make a huge difference in helping children return to school feeling confident and ready to learn.

To help prevent the summer slide, I’m offering a limited number of Summer Boost Sessions throughout the holidays.

Sessions are suitable for primary-aged children and can be booked individually throughout the summer.

By understanding each child’s strengths, interests and learning needs, we can find strategies that help them feel successful and confident.

📚 GCSE English or Functional Skills?

It’s a question I hear quite often from parents and young people.

While both qualifications develop literacy skills, they are designed for different learners and future pathways.

The most suitable option depends on a young person’s strengths, confidence, learning needs and long-term goals.

There isn’t a “better” choice—just the right choice for the individual.

Understanding the differences can help families make informed decisions and ensure young people have the support they need to succeed. 💛
