☀️The children made their own pinhole cameras and pinhole projectors to safely watch the eclipse, creating such a simple but fascinating way to experience something so extraordinary. It brought back memories for me of the last total solar eclipse visible from the UK in 1999, when I was just 16 years old, sitting at the checkouts in Sainsbury’s and watching the light change as the moon passed in front of the sun.
It’s lovely to think that all these years later, I’m now teaching the children a creative way to experience and remember these amazing moments.🌒

During our visit at Victoria country park today, the children noticed that some of the headstones had coins placed on top of them and were curious about what they meant. This led to a meaningful discussion about how, in some traditions, particularly in military cemeteries, coins are left on gravestones as a sign of respect, remembrance, and to show that someone has visited to honour the person who has passed away. The children listened with interest, asked thoughtful questions, and reflected on the importance of remembering those who have served and the different ways people pay their respects.

Half term: The children have enjoyed a variety of fun and engaging activities. They got creative by making crafts, mixing their own magical potions, and baking fresh bread together. They also had lots of fun playing a range of board games, encouraging teamwork and friendly competition. Alongside these indoor activities, the children enjoyed exciting outings to Romsey Memorial Park, Victoria Country Park, local parks, the bowling alley, swimming and the cinema, giving them plenty of opportunities to stay active, explore, and make wonderful memories with their friends.

The month i have been quietly dreading.
The last sports day.

The leavers' party.
The last time they walk out those primary school gates as a pupil.
I don't know how we've got here.

A mix of pride, excitement, nerves... and that lump in your throat that appears out of nowhere.
Everyone tells you they'll be ready.
Nobody tells you that you might not be.

R,E,P,S,& J,Wishing you every happiness and success in this exciting new chapter. Shine brightly, dream big, and enjoy every moment—you’ve got this! ###

🎥 Lovely inset day for the biggest children last week. Given us the ideal opportunity to watch the new Toy Story film🍿 & of course a bus journey.

(Apparently it’s now the “vip area” to sit at the front.) Whilst my soon to be year 6 leavers sat at the back away from me 😔. I just hate this growing up malarkey part.

🦷 Promoting oral health in children is vital for establishing lifelong hygiene habits.
Engaging the children with play-based activities like Dentist Role Play and 2-minute brushing songs, can make dental care an exciting daily routine.
Teaching the "why" and "how" fosters essential self-care skills to protect strong, healthy smiles 😃

It’s been a work in progress these past couple of weekends
I had asked ChatGPT to make this area more inviting for children & include the seven areas of Learning in the eyfs. Few more bits to add but we’re almost at the finishing line.

Created an Outdoor seating area which will help children by providing a dedicated space to relax, socialize, and engage with nature.

🪴 We have a variety of herbs & vegetables growing. Encouraging healthier eating, teaching responsibility, and stimulating sensory awareness.

Outdoor role play-Boosts Communication and Vocabulary. Pretending together—such as potion making or playing with the diggers requires sharing, taking turns, and teamwork.

🎨 black board & painting board: Helps children by strengthening core physical muscles, accelerating early literacy skills, and lowering sensory anxiety through unrestricted, messy play. They teach early colour theory: With free rein over paint pots, children independently experiment with colour mixing.
They also Boosts early literacy and maths: Vertical boards are prime zones for "mark-making". The children have naturally used these setups to map out menus for their mud kitchen, practice letter formation, or sketch shapes.

🔢 number line in a garden helps children by combining physical activity with visual maths,Jumping, hopping, or placing objects with the numerals turns abstract math into a hands-on, engaging game that makes numbers much easier to understand.
