🌵 Welcome back, Cactus Club!

This wellbeing club gives Year 7 and Lower School pupils the opportunity to unwind at lunchtime, care for the KES cacti collection and learn more about the world of horticulture. Thank you to the KES PTA for their support on helping us relaunch Cactus Club.

Cactus Club is just one of more than 100 clubs and societies available at KES. From Chess Club and Lego Club to Sustainability Action Groups, Doodle Club and Jazz Club, there are countless opportunities for pupils to explore their interests, develop new skills and make lasting friendships.

Last week, our Sixth Form students presented their Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) projects, showcasing months of research, independent study and dedication.

From Olympic snowboarding and sleep deprivation to Soviet government policy and the regulation of AI, students explored a diverse range of subjects driven by their own interests and passions. Following each presentation, classmates took part in thoughtful discussions and Q&A sessions.

The EPQ is an invaluable opportunity for students to pursue a topic they are passionate about while developing essential skills for higher education, including research, critical thinking, independent learning and self-evaluation.

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Romsey and Southampton North MP Caroline Nokes to speak with our Politics Society.

Over lunch and an engaging talk, Caroline shared brilliant insights into balancing her work as a constituency MP with her role as Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons. She also dove into key case studies from her time as Chair of the Women & Equalities Committee, providing fantastic real-world depth for our pupils.

A huge thank you to Caroline for her time and well done to our pupils for asking such inquisitive questions during the Q&A!

Did you know that over 60 pupils at King Edward’s hold a Bursary Award?

Bursaries are means-tested financial awards designed to ensure that bright, ambitious pupils can access a KES education regardless of financial circumstances. Depending on family income, Bursary Awards can cover anywhere from partial fees up to 100% of school fees. Full Bursary Award holders also receive support with additional costs like uniform, travel, lunches and trips.

Another tournament, another trophy! 🏆

Following their triumph in Nottingham last month, our 1st XI Girls’ Hockey team picked up another victory this weekend at the Sherborne Invitational Tournament.

The team won all their pool matches and semi-final to set up a tense final which ended 1-1 before our girls secured a dramatic victory on penalties.

Now all eyes turn to the start of the season as the U18 Super League kicks off away at Peter Symonds this Wednesday.

Open Forum is back for a new term! 🔙

Every Thursday, our Sixth Formers get the exclusive opportunity to hear from guest speakers across a wide range of industries and life experiences.

To kick off the new year, we were joined by Paralympian Wendy Smith. After a life-changing road accident at age 17, Wendy went on to represent Great Britain in wheelchair basketball at the 2004 Athens Paralympic Games. She shared her incredible story of resilience and what it truly takes to rebuild and bounce back.

All aboard! 🚂

The KES Model Railway Society had a fantastic time at The Brickworks Museum’s Trains Day on Sunday.

Our pupils ran a Triang TT layout, chatting with visitors, sharing their passion for rail modelling and spreading the word about life at King Edward's, including our upcoming Open Evening.

Huge thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hello and support our pupils!

Spotlight on Katie! 🎶

This summer, Year 9 pupil Katie represented King Edward's at the National Children's Concert Band residential at Chetham’s School of Music.

She spent three intensive days working with professional conductors, rehearsing alongside 100 top young musicians and performing as a key asset in the flute section at Manchester’s Stoller Hall!

From working with pro flautist Lisa Nelsen to meeting NYC composers, it was an unforgettable experience. Amazing work, Katie!
