🐥🐥 There is an excitement in the air here at Little Shipmates. We've had four chicks in the last 24 hours and watched as they were born. The children have been learning about the life cycle of the chickens and how they grow. We are also looking for homes for them if anyone knows anyone who can keep them or can pass them onto a family that can. We would love to see them and keep in touch with these chicks as they find their forever home. 🐥🐥

Our incubated chick eggs arrived on Monday 8th June, and today we celebrated the exciting arrival of our first chick! Since then, three chicks have successfully hatched, and we are eagerly waiting to see if any more will emerge.

This has been a wonderful learning experience for the children, giving them the unique opportunity to observe the life cycle firsthand. Watching the chicks develop from eggs and hatch into living, breathing chicks helps children gain a deeper understanding of growth, change, and the natural world. It also encourages curiosity, responsibility, and discussions about animal care and development.

The children have been fascinated by the process and have thoroughly enjoyed watching this special stage of the life cycle unfold before their eyes. Children from all three rooms have been visiting the chicks throughout the day and have loved seeing their progress.

If you would like to pop in and see the chicks for yourself, please do. They are currently based in the Blue Cabin, and we would be delighted to share this exciting experience with you.

Blue Cabin have really been enjoying junk modelling and working together on group modelling projects.

Junk modelling uses recycled materials (boxes, tubes, plastics) to foster creativity, fine motor skills, and problem-solving. It supports EYFS framework areas like Expressive Arts and Design, Communication and Language, and Personal, Social, and Emotional Development by encouraging exploration, collaboration, and spatial awareness.

🌿GREEN THUMBS 🌿

Our children love to garden and look after living things in our environment.

Gardening provides a rich, hands-on learning environment that supports all developmental areas, offering physical activity, sensory experiences, and emotional benefits. Key activities include planting seeds, watering, and digging, which foster understanding of nature, improve motor skills, and teach patience and responsibility.

Our children really enjoyed our shaving foam fire tuff tray. They used their fine motor skills to use the pipettes and water to 'put out the fire'. Some of the children were inspired to keep the firefighting theme going, making fire engines from our mobilo set and playing fire fighters in the role play area too!
